Why do people worship movie/film celebrities?

The more attention that you give them the more money they demand in subsequent movies that they star in. Are they really worth the money that they get? Do they really change or benefit society? Why don't humans worship scientists that discover cures for diseases instead of movie celebrities that influence our children into wanting fame and fortune for the wrong reasons? I like movies and I am not a prude but are the actors worth millions?

The masses need someone to look up to, to idolize. At least, people who lack enough confidence in themselves do. Movie stars get more fame than scientists because everyone watches movies, but not everyone follows scientific and medical journals, or for that matter would even understand them. I agree with you, though. People shouldn't idolize others anyway. Be inspired by others, but never put them up on a pedestal. By doing that, you're just lowering yourself.

Because we live in a media driven world dependent on the cult of the celebrity.  People are brainwashed into believing that, somehow, a celebrity's opinion, of anything, is more important than their own.  Of course, when they get down on the interview couch we realise that often they have difficulty putting two words together without the rehearsal and auto-cue.
Manufacturing companies have to hype celebrities to ensure exposure of all their spin off products,  Any action character makes a better (commercial) doll than, say, the Alexander Fleming, doll.

You know you have a point there... but then I learned to admire actors because of their remarkable performance and good looks on the screen, meaning the longer you look at him the more he became goodlooking. But I just admire, not worship, worship is just too profound that I can only think of our God as deserving to be worshipped...

at present I jsut became a big fan Korean actress Lee Yo Won, simply because I like her performance at QSD and I like her type of beauty.

I come from Southern California, and have been around many people from the movies, just from time to time, never did a thing for me, my life is happy and full.  But, people that I knew from other states would ask me all the time if I know this person or that person that is a movie star.  I even went as an extra in films with my kids to share a fun experience.  I think it is an illusion of sorts, it reminds me of nosy neighbors they have no life.  They wish and dream in a strange way to be in a world this is only for a chosen few, they can't even leave their homes, I would never want to be famous, you would never really know who your friends are.  Most people watch a movie and relates to a person, so they immaculate.

No i don't think they worth it at all. People are paying their monies to watch makeup faces. These women that men wow over am positive if they see them Normal with out makeup and body sheens, they would stop wowing. It's like they are acting a double role because the faces they put out for us to see is not there's . They hide behind a mask. The funny thing is these people are acting/making crap for people to watch. Movies are just getting worst and people spend alot of money behind them, making the rich richer. Long time movie actors i'd say deserved better smile

A scientist might have ability in innovation, a writer has a prophecy in writing, and a celebrity has a proficiency in the display of arts to bring the pleasure of happiness. All are praise worthy if not worthy to worship. Of course the word worship is justified in the case of Almighty only.

Unfortunately, in our recent time we tend to live in 'narcissistic societies' that celebrate anyone who manages to get attention of the masses for whatever reason...we like to see ordinary people getting famous even for wrong reasons or for no achievement at all (the popularity of reality shows). The reason lies in our own wishful dream to be in their place, because if they can do it, we can be next, can't we?

Why would be worshiping a scientist who discovers a cure? We know we would never be clever enough to be in his place. We like the idea of fame for everyone, just to 'shine' if only for one day...

Because most people are so dumb that they can barely think. Thinking gives them headaches, so they'd rather just gawk at celebrities.

Some people see talent and capabilities in the celebrities, they very faithfully follow .   And wish or have fantasy that they could get the interest of someone important in their life.  Or think they can become that person, to be successful, rich, have a lot of nice things, not have work day to day at low paying jobs they..don't enjoy.   They dream about, wish about, and fantasize on living a life like their celebrity heroes..they most admire.   To others, it does look like they are..way gone and over board intheir expressing their feelings.   I admire the character: Lara Croft, in the film made years ago, with Angelina Jolie.   She's made many films since then.  But, I will always have special feelings about that film, when I review it from time to time.   What goes through my mind, is that in her character as Lara Croft, she's a strong image.  Pretty, healthy, intelligent, and admired by the silver spoon society, she is apart of in the film....I love her personality.
