Do you think reality shows are on the way out?
So many reality shows were popular for so long, but it seems that some of them, such as American Idol, are losing ratings. Some remain strong, such as Survivor and the Bachelor/Bachelorette. The new ideas seem lame, such as the new one about celebrities diving! Do you think that reality shows are here to stay or will eventually be a thing of the past?
Gosh I surely hope so...because they are really starting to get ridiculous with them. I saw a commercial the other day for an "Amish Mafia".
Oh, really? Gosh, they are really reaching, aren't they? If they want to keep a few, fine; keep the ones with the ratings. I think you're right, though, in that they are getting ridiculous. Amish Mafia? Wow.
Before I saw your description I was totally going to bring up the celebrity diving show. There's no way that they spent more than 15 minutes trying to come up with that idea.
Like Alphadogg16 said... I surely hope so. Unfortunately I don't think that's the case. Reality shows still account for 3 of the top 5 spots in viewership this month.
I guess people can become hooked to those types of things. I can't really call it stupid, either...I find myself caring about who wins a football or basketball game, and that doesn't make sense to a lot of people.
In some ways, I hope so. I'm sick to death of Kardashians and I can't believe they made a whole show out of diving? The heck? On the other hand, I did just discover Duck Dynasty, so I don't know if they all need to go the way of the dodo.
The reality of "reality" TV is that it is still heavily scripted. I don't watch much TV, I don't even have cable! So I am not sure what is on anymore. I watch mostly sitcoms on Netflix. I never thought the whole "real TV" was a good idea. Many people become addicted to it and many young adults get influenced by it. I guess its all about the money. I remember hearing them "Jersey Shore" people made millions every season. I never watched that but have seen it advertised and if that is what American enjoys watching... We have got some major problems! lol
I'm still into reality cooking shows. I wouldn't mind if they stay a little while longer.
I think, The word "reality" is only real here and the rest of shows are on the way out. And that's the reason reality show like American Idol, are losing ratings. .... By the way thanks for the post Victoria, take care.
I hope so; however, it will not take the producers and directors long to fill up the television with more rubbish, just as banal.
When some reality shows go out, new ones come in. Duck Dynasty is doing very well while American Idol is struggling. The Kardashians seem to be doing fine too.
You may be right. Why do people watch the Kardashians? It seems that some shows are struggling and new ones keep coming, although some of the new ones are pretty weak.
To be honest, they are funny to watch. However, you do feel stupid when watching the episodes. Duck Dynasty is awesome though. Reminds me of home
I hardly think so. They seem to have replaced Soap Operas, and you know how long those were in, (over 50 years). Need I say more.
But are they worse than soap operas? Hey, I still watch Days of Our Lives! :-)
I agree, but the interests seem to be the same. The young people seem to want to peer into the lives of real people the way we use to do with Soap Operas.
Yes, true. You've got a point there. I like a few of the reality shows, but they seem to be getting worse as far as what they're about. Time will tell. Thanks for your input!
Personally, I stopped watching them a couple of years ago and I was an avid watcher of a lot of them. I finally got totally disgusted with the people on them and quit watching all of them. I thought they were on their way out, but apparently not. There are still so many of them going strong and new ones popping up every day!
The only ones I watch are "Survivor" and "Duck Dynasty." I hate all the shows with a bunch of bickering kids or women like the teen mom shows, basket wives and house wives shows. Those make me sick to my stomach. Why glorify such stupidity?

Why do people on reality shows seem stupid? Is it me or these people just go on and stand there with a derp look on there face. Why can't they seem to find intelligent people. Are there even intelligent people anywhere on tv.

If so, I would like to engage in a discussion about this unhealthy addiction of mine.I predicted the who the Top 5 would be Seven weeks ago and I'm basking in it, but I'm also concerned for myself. To understand this type of absurdity must not be healthy at all.
