What do you think about boys at the age of seventeen wearing ear plug gages, gages or lip rings?
I don't mind a few holes in the facial area. Though it can definitely be over done, lol.
As far as the issue with 17 year olds doing it, I wouldn't see it as a big deal. Peircing can heal over time, so it's not like he's getting a tatt or anything.
I was never fond of having holes in your body that you could fit a quarter inside of. It looks really tacky to me, and quite frankly, trashy. Piercings can usually grow back in, but not when they have the same circumference as the base of your middle finger. Then they're permanent damage, and not exactly appealing to most employers.
I think that one day they will regret it and there will be nothing they can do about it.
Picture this, a man looking for a job, dressed nicely, trying to impress an employer that he is competent, self-aware and capable--and he has quarter size holes in his ears.
So I think is it unwise to make permanent changes to your body based on 17 year old's wisdom of the world.
Generally I believe it reflects on a child who probably had limited parental direction or guidance. Kids without limits "express" themselves to get reactions. They aren't smart enough yet to understand actions have consequences and no one has had the strength to explain that to them yet. That lack of direction will no doubt continue to play out more times than not - in a bad way. Not saying "some" hole punchers don't turn out successful. Jimmy Hendrix was very successful - for a little while.
