They were polite but my husband to be and I were very young at the time and I think they were a little worried that we were too young to be getting into a serious relationship.

My father-in-law was polite, but I always had the feeling that he wasn't very happy or happy at all, my mother-in-law was very friendly as she always is... I think that in time, my father-in-law came to realize that I was a good idea, but at the time moving in together so fast, starting our lifes from scratch like that, etc, I think he thought we would just crash and burn...

Very cool.  They act the same now when see them as they did the first time:  the mom feeds me and the dad has me look at his garden and listen to his music.  The only difference from that first visit twenty-three years ago (way before we knew we would be family) is that now when we visit I don't have to sleep in the sister's room..

While not technically in-laws because we weren't married, my son's father's parents and I have had a very good relationship. It has been stated by both non-in-laws that they consider me the child they always wanted.

My father-in-law had died several years earlier so I never met him. My mother-in-law and I met at the rehearsal at the church. She had just flown in an hour earlier and I had been at work. She was very friendly and over the years she has treated me better than she treats my husband. My sister-in-law was also there and she treated me friendly also. I am his third wife so they did not expect it to last but I guess we have stood the test. We have been married for 26 years now.
