Why are some children embarrassed of their parents?
Is is just because we're not cool enough?
I think it's just a phase some teenagers go through. I hated hanging out with my parents. I remember one time when I was 13 my parents took me and my younger brother and sister to the beach. The same beach where I hung out with my friends. Like I really wanted some babe to see me at the beach with my parents. I sat in the car the whole time they were there and really ticked off my father.
Fortunately for me, my teenage daughter, now 18, never was like that. Like I said, I think it's mostly a phase. But I will say that the more self-confident a teenager is, the less likely he/she is going to be "embarrassed" by parents. How does the teenager relate to other adults such as teachers, coaches, and the like? Probably similar to the way the teenager relates to parents.
I'd say it's more because of peer pressure and some kids go through that stage in life. I say mostly because, I never experience it with my own and knew of some parents who are also lucky not to experience the same. However, in one of the parties that I was once invited, this topic came up from a couple of parents who are experiencing it. No big deal for them because surely, the kids will eventually overcome this phase of growing up. Well, we can hope that these kids don't grow up as nasty adults.
I'm glad my daughter consider me her bestfriend in and out of the house. (:
Kudos to you for raising a well mannered and adjusted daughter. You've done a great job. This question actually pertains to a daughter of a friend who never lets her father watches any of her musical performances in school. Thanks for the comment
