Why are there no themes in Hubpages?

   Google just launched Themes in Gmail. Why cant Hubpages have similar features?
   Atleast there should be 2-3 themes to start with, where a user can select one according to his content type. Lets say for technology there is a different theme and for entertainment there is a different one. Similarly for fashion or health etc. Although I love hubpages in this way too. Still it will be great if there could be some new makeover changes

   I am really pissed with gmail and its bloody themes - the thing now takes a significant time to load and sometimes I have to try twice to get it to load in the morning!  Its an email program why the hell would I want it to another colour.
   
   Hubpages has a standard look and feel so that at one glance you know you are on a hubpage: I dbout that they are going to change that.l You make your hub unique with the content not with the colour of the background!

   With makeover or themes I am not just talking about changing the color. Rather I want to have some unique changes so that it will be easier identifying different types of hubs. And in gmail if you dont like themes so can always change that. Gmail was just an example.

   The idea is good, but the site should not become slow due to this. At present the layout and colours are very simple so that the page loads easily.

   Exactly my point shinujohn- gmail used to load instanteously for me: now it doesnt because now there are themes even though I havent changed from the default!

   We don't need no smeggin' themes.
   
   How would a theme for every topic work?
   You'd need loads of themes.
   
   Not to mention a decoding chart so you could identify which coloured theme went with which topic.
   
   Call me old fashioned, but I think that it's quick and easy to work out the topic of a hub from the title and the content.
   
   Just have a look at the explosion in a paint factory that is myspace and you'll see the result of people playing with colours, themes, etc.

      In some way I do agree with you. But still its been a long time since there have been any changes in Hubpages in terms of format or colors. May be if users are given some more variety of options related to creating a hubpage. Then too it will do.

   The theme on my hotmail email makes it load slower.  I am thinking about taking it off.  Themes are for Myspace and I can go there when I want to see it.

   You can change your own "theme" in each article by adding pictures and videos, etc. I'm like others, I don't want this place to start looking like MySpace.

    Oh God does this mean Im with the old fogies like Mark and Eric? Could someone under 30 explain to me what the appeal of changing the background on something like igoogle or gmail - I really don't understand - I can see it being a bit useful for someone who's colour blind but apart from that i really don't get it :-( - must be old - goes off to hide in non-cyber hole

          I vote 'NO' to the themes.  I like the clean layout and think that pimping up the hubs would distract the reader away from the content.
          
          If that lumps me in with the fogeys, then so be it.

    I really like that Hubpages is theme-less and *very* clean looking. It allows the focus to remain on the writing instead of being distracted by the aesthetics.

       There are plenty of other places to go if you want to express your individuality - blog, website,  MySpace, Facebook.  Although we each control our own Hubs on HubPages, overall it is one big site and therefore there must be consistency.   Feature writers in magazines don't get to choose what their articles look like - the magazine sets its "look and feel" as a whole.  HubPages is like that.

    I was flicking through an encylopedia* the other day, several in fact, as I was doing some research. And I noticed a distinct lack of 'themes'.
    
    It consisted entirely of text. Black on white. Though neatly presented in easy to swallow paragraphs.
    
    One such encyclopedia had an occasional drawing or photograph to illustrate a point.
    
    The thing I like about encyclopedia's, and HubPages, is that you don't get distracted from learning with frilly colorful bits around the borders or in the background. It's all business.

          I've been doing a course in written English language since I was 5. For about 3 or so years before that I could talk it. So I somehow manage to piece together these written concepts and have found that a person can learn some new and profound things in the text alone. It's amazing!
          
          To top it off, I'm a Graphic Designer. And I've seen what non-designers can do with themes or be handed the ability to change page layout and design. It's a terrible result. And for the truly incompetent, they tend to use an overabundance of graphics and colors to make up for their lack of writing skills.

             I can't spend much time on MySpace, the graphics are awful and ugly. I like HubPages the way it is, it's one of the most attractive writing platforms on the net.
