Money vs Happy. Which one is more important?

   What do you think about it? Money can make you happy? Or Happy help you make money?

      Basic needs is met is ok, Money helps in your happiness, to some extent
      
      However if you cant even meet your basic needs, then you will not be happy,
      
      After meeting basic needs money, I choose happiness
      
      and choose to be satiable

      Someone once told me "He who thinks money can buy happiness is a fool.  He who thinks that money can not buy happiness is also a fool!"  Money can not may you happy if you do not have the mental and emotional balance that comes with it.  However, the lack of money can make you unhappy and cause a great deal of stress in a persons life.  It's not really the money that provides happiness, it the easy that the money provides (if you know how to handle it) and the doors/options is opens in life.

      but the happiest people i ever met were in a dirt poor city in costa rica.
      
      money *can* make you happpy...or can at least lessen the stress that contributes to unhappiness.
      
      but happiness comes from inside, just as true unhappiness comes from inside. and so can not be cured with anything outside of the self...including and maybe especially money.
      
      one can be happy without money.
      
      one can be happy with money, too.
      
      but the rich are not always happy...and the poor are not always unhappy.
      so on that token its safe to say that money only seems like part of the equation...its a separate issue in and of itself.

   Money is very important.  Without money most things cannot be done.  Just imagine, how do we feed ourselves?  Without food, what can we achieve?  An adequate amount of money is definitely essential for our worldly happiness.  However, money is not a guarantee for happiness.  This is a well-known fact.

         You mean why money is no guarantee for happiness?
         
         Answer:  If you don't have the wisdom to be contented, you will be a slave  trying to satisfy unquenchable sensual and material desires for all things.  In the end you become victim to the "good life" either succumbing to  sickness or gone bankrupt or both!

   Rich people are not necessarily happy. Look at the tabloids.
   
   Being at peace with yourself, accepting yourself, is the only way to understand what happiness can be. Otherwise, it's always fleeting and circumstantial. However, being in a good place with yourself, and add money to that, and you have a fine elixir.
   
   I'm good with having both.

   I can be happy without money but money can't make me happy. 
   
   I choose happiness but struggle with the world telling me nothing is as important as money because money can buy anything.

      As for the original question - I think money can't make you happy, yet a certain amount helps most people, including myself. Probably there are those advanced souls who can be happy without money, but I did not meet any of them yet.

           there are some who believe money can buy anything - including happiness.  so far with each increase in the amount of money I make I've been less happy.  merely a coincidence?  or would it prove you can be happy without money?  I think it's a matter of perspective and what you choose to be happy about.

   I agree with Cagsil. They are equally important. It's all relative. You can be poor with a positive attitude that opens the door for happiness in your world regardless of a difficult money situation, or you can be rich with a poor negative attitude never allowing any true happiness regardless of your wealth. It's when people put more emphasis on one or the other that gets them in trouble. Money vs. Happiness.... I think it's all about balance. Both can be attained and should be given equal amount of energy put towards it.

   The only reason to want money is if it makes you happy, so happiness must be more important.
   
   On the other hand, whilst money can't buy you happiness, as the saying goes, a lack of money can certainly make you unhappy.

   Well, I would have to say that it is difficult to feel truly happy without money.  Just look at the stats with divorce.  Financial stress contributes hugely to the dissolution of marriages.  Of course we can be happy if our basic needs are met, and you are the kind of person who can budget for anything, but a little extra moolah never hurts either.

    There is an old Eagles song that says:
    
    You can spend all your time making money
    You can spend all your love making time
    
    The actual answer is once you find happiness you are there.  I have spent all my time making money and chasing the dollar.  It did not make me happy.  I am not super wealthy by any means. The irony of it all.
    
    I will change the lyrics a little and say that I have spent a lot of my happiness making time.
    
    A person who is happy is surely reached the pinnacle in life.

    i can make good money but i spend 10 hours a day doing it. that doesn't make me happy. spending time with my hubby and daughter is what truly makes me happy.

    There was a time in my life that I was spending money on 'stuff'...not thinking, just spending...I realize now, I was unhappy and would get some sort of 'high' for a moment...and really, only for a moment.  That phase or whatever it was is over now luckily. 
    
    Simple things make me happy now...like they did before...I'm moving myself back to the simpler times.
