Do you have any friends with a really cool avatar? What do you think is the best type of avatar? Whose avatar on hubpages is your favorite and why?

And why did you choose your own avatar?

If someone were starting on HubPages, how would you advise they get an avatar? I got mine from Zwinky and it downloaded loads of "free" stuff onto my computer, it took my tech savvy son ages to get rid of it.

Are there any sites you can make an avatar with less spam, or how else would you get an avatar?

You can use any picture that you have on your computer as long as you either took it yourself or else it's a public-domain type type of thing.  As long as you don't use a picture that someone else owns the copyright to you, you can go to where you change your image, browse your own files, get the picture, and then crop it.  If you have a picture of yourself, you can use that if you want.    If one on your PC is too big you can shrink it first (if you don't know how, come back on here and ask - or have your son do it), and then it may crop better once you're uploaded it.

So, I'd advise find a picture you like but won't infringe on anyone's copyrights (and get in trouble as a result of it), and use one that you just kind of like.  You can always easily change it, so if you only sort of like it, you can use it for awhile until you find or take a better one.  You may want to consider whether you're here just for fun or want a picture that may seem like you want your writing taken seriously.

I use the one I have (for now, but for quite awhile) because it's kind of gender-neutral but also pretty and transparent (which, to me, is feminine - and I didn't want "completely gender neutral".  I liked that it's solid but also kind of ethereal - and natural, but not too earthy.   smile  Not everyone takes them all that seriously.  I wanted one I could transport to other sites, though; so it had to have a certain kind of "stability" and "seriousness" to it.    hmm   When all is said and done, I like the ones with people's real faces.
