I see several nicknames on hubpages. some are of course meant to be for the purpose of not revealing what a writer does not want revealed. But what are all the others about?
For instance why are you the uninvited writer or dipless or sufi dreamer or red elf or violet sun or laughing mom or glass visage or tiptopcat.
Would LOVE to find out.
I would like to change my username. I started hubpages with the wrong intention which was to promote only. However after I got to know the live community and quickly realized hubpages is different from all other community I thought again as to the purpose of me being here. So unfortunately I am stuck with the name.
Reena, I can claim no special cleverness. When I started here, I was under the impression we were supposed to choose something other than our real names for our user names. I came up with this play on my name and my email address. You can call me Red (used to be a redhead, now back to natural blondness, pun intended, lol) or Elf - either will do and are close to my real name.
its a nickname I picked up from my friends haha
Hi Reena!
I am new here, so it is nice to met ya!
My "ONLINE" Names all are mostly taken from my given name, which is Carrie. I first got online in the early 90's. I was given the name SWEETPEA by the first friend I ever met online, but after 2 months time, I realized that was just "NOT ME" lol
Late one night (More light early one morning, it was after midnight), I was bored, and went to shower and happened to decide to dye my hair. After the process was done, I blew my hair dry to see my exact NEW SHADE . Well, right there and then, my online name was born! I looked just like a CHERRY .... and I said OMG DAYUM THAT WORKS LOL CherryCarrie! It has served me VERY WELL. I can not even begin to convey how much gentlemen seem to be willing to give a girl calling herself "CHERRY" help /the benefit of doubt when things go wrong, etc etc!! *Snickers* lol I have a ton of online persona's but this is by far and away the one I am attached to and use most. Though I do use other variations (IE: CarriesNOCherry, CarriesSOCherry, CaliforniaCherry). And then ... sometimes my online pals simply are lazy, and just call me CC lol
Our Hub name is 2Patricias because there really are two of us, and we are share the name Patricia.
In daily life one of us is called Pat, and the other Tricia.
We write a website together, as well as writing Hubs.
We are not very prolific Hub writers because we do a lot of other things as well.
Our intentions are always good - we truly mean to produce more Hubs.
Some of our Hubs are collaborative and others we do as individuals.
Mine is my pseudonym. But it is also significant to who I really am.
I was drunk at the time.
Said this before but seen as though you asked so nicely.
Others have far better reasons
And there is another thread somewhere, still ongoing. Can't find it at the minute though.
The best ever reason, frogdropping! What a fantastic unique name!
Bad Company are my fav Rock Band and I am into numerology and believe a year with double digits has always had an importance in my life hence the 99
numerology? really? cool. I like 3. and this is supposed to be my lucky year...
My lucky number is 7 but in my lifetime I have lived in only three houses being number 78, number 69, and number 159. Now add the digits of each and you get 15. Weird or what
Rofl, Frogdropping, I remember a thread where someone kept saying "frogdroppings". =x Everytime I see your name, I envision frogdropping as a sort of a fascinating... dance? Drop like a frog? Perhaps that's where the drunkenness came in. One can only guess what you were doing while drunk at the time.
Bad Company, I just came across numerology not long ago and have some sites on that bookmarked. I'm still trying to figure that stuff out.
getpaidtopost, I understand that. I thought I'd use a pen name, but looking at the creative names on here, I wish I stuck with my usual "thisismyhappyface" or "Happyface" ones that I use on a lot of other sites or messengers.
That's my story right thar, Reena. How about yours? Pen name or real?
Very much my real name Sunny. I suppose I could'nt think think of a clever or unusual enough nickname
Jen is my actual name, and black sheep has two meanings: One is the common meaning of being a 'black sheep'; the odd one out. The other meaning is that it is the name of a squadron of stealth planes that I particularly like!
well...my inner jew means i wish i was jewish but since i can't be i have to just think i am jewish on the inside...i love israel and love the israeli people and i want to live there...so my name reveals and doesn't hide
Actually, you can find more about the HP profile names... Here:
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/7678
I play the saxophone and I love Coltrane's Giantsteps so that's my name. It also reminds me of the first line of a Police song. "Giant steps are what you take walking on the moon."
...I hope my leg don't break, walking on the moon. Have great memories of that song; quirky song, we discussed it a lot when we were in college.
I have seen a great many magnificent nicknames on the various sites upon which I post but I have always resisted the temptation to use one.
Why? Because particularly in the wake of Credit Crunch, online work is my business and I need as many search results to tie together as possible.
One of the best and most original nicknames I have seen - and it took me a long time to figure it out! - is the one used by he who posts extremely regularly by one pseudonym on Hub Pages but something quite different on Squidoo.
Anyone know to whom and to what name I mean?
Want a clue?
Mirror, mirror on the wall...
I would actually be interested to know why dark side? If you care to share?
I put the story of my screen name in my personal hub so that I wouldn't have to keep explaining it to people.
http://hubpages.com/hub/relache
I did something very similar
http://hubpages.com/hub/The-Paranormal-Hotel
I was fascinated with the Book Angel & Demons a couple of years ago and thus came illminatus. It's my email address and pin name on several sites. One problem.. I couldn't spell at the time
Loved the book too, and never mind about the spelling
My name is Cole, and my close friends and family call me "Colebaby" like "Hey Colebaby!" my uncle started calling my brother "Brobaby" which he hates.
Anime Nanet means in portuguese Anime On the web...
It does not means that my name is Nanet LoL altough there's so many people thinking that I actualy sign Nanet now... why not!
Great topic. Lots of creativity behind many hubbers' names!
I already had the name Mighty Pen for my business. When I joined Hub Pages I intended to write exclusively on family issues (actually, when I joined I could only think of one topic and it related to family). But "Mom" and "Mighty" seemed to go naturally and I tend to like alliteration.
Little did I know I'd soon be in good company with the likes of Laughing Mom and Triplet Mom and Gwendymom and MotherHubber!
Thanks everyone for sharing. That made for really interesting reading.
I did not know there was already a thread. I thought there must be so I did a search but I did it for 'nicknames' and not 'profile names' which is why i got zilch and then started this thread. LOL
I'm not sure why I chose this username other than the fact that I'm a girly girl! I originally tried girly_girl, but it was taken. I don't use this name on any other websites other than twitter and a few blog catalog type sites; everything is related to my online writing. Other than that, it's completely untraceable to my typical usernames on the internet and my real name. I never thought to use a pen name, but looking back, I wish I would've...would have been cool! I desire anonymity and my username provides that.
it is all about family and I explain it in my profile right up front
The name of one of my t-shirt stores and my Squidoo lensmaster name. It's definitely stuck. It's way too late to go back at this stage in the game, so Kiwi it is.
Read my hub I wrote awhile back "creative hubber names" and you will find some answers.
Here you go:
http://hubpages.com/_dwn4bbs4rxf1/hub/G … ow-Hubbers
Read the article and read the comments there are many responses on there, hope it helps.
It is a description of me and was given by Big Issue Cymru magazine for the homeless in which I used to have a column back in '98 when I was living in the Ely council estate in Cardiff. That I was a Bard was correct because I write and perform songs and poetry. It became my stage name and I use it elsewhere because it is now well-established and because it was an accurate description when I was given the title.
Thanks wordscribe and I think Bard of Ely, yours is a wonderful nickname and interesting story
Well.. my niece called me Uncle Stooge. She actually wanted to call Uncle Scrooge, but it always came out as Uncle Stooge. So there.
my name isnt cool. I wish I would have thought a little bit more about it. now Im stuck.
The name means bugger all, tis the hubber behind it !
My parents couldn't think of anything clever to call me when I was born.
LOL, Pete, mine neither.
I think it is fascinating the process of choosing nicknames, any more out there?
As for dark side, I should have guessed
My nick reflects the fact that I'm a writer obviously, but it also hints at my political affiliation as well. I consider myself to be very "right-winged". By right-winged I don't mean I lean toward Fascism, as I don't consider Fascism to be a right-winged philosophy but rather just another style of leftist Socialism. I believe in very limited federal government. In fact I'm writing a blog about the whole "left-wing, right-wing" thing right now.
Nothing too special...but then again, maybe there's 100 of me here on hubpages
Moonchild is because I am a Cancer, and we are also called "Moon children" as that is our "ruling planet" as it were. Additionally, I have always had this love affair with the moon, this strange connection to it. I bought a beautiful painting while I was in Hawaii of a woman standing on cliffs by the water with this amazing full moon and I myself love to paint the moon reflected on the ocean. I own about 5 crescent moon necklaces. 60 is the year I was born. Thats about it.
I can sing just as good as the real bird. hehe. (ear plugs)
Mine is simple enough. One of my hobbies is playing the tuba. As an undergrad at NU (the University of Nebraska) I played tuba in the marching band each of my 5 years there. Thus ... nutuba. (I still play tuba in our church orchestra and sometimes in local concert and brass bands). Cheers all, Joel
Thanks A Evans.
@Nutuba The tuba is quite a difficult instrument to play isnt it? But I like the way it sounds
My name is Isabel...many years ago a pen-friend ( back when we actually wrote snail mail) named me "Zabby". I loved it I could not use Zabby here for some reason...so, "Zabbella" was born.
I have been known as Yoshi for many years on the internet and the 97 is the year I first went online ... yep, that's pitiful *sigh*
Perhaps I should have went with the name Loki, as I do like to stir up some mischief from time to time.
Invisible army ... prepare to defend my honor! (you guys are still here, aren't you? Guys? uh-oh!)
i call my self isis_dreams for my love of ancient eyptian mythology with there gods
I seriously guarantee that no one could guess what my profile name is about.
My nick name is Bee. It used to be Beaver when I was younger because of my teeth. I grew into my teeth, so my family cut it short to Bee.
Now, that I have matured, most people tease me by calling me queen bee or queen of the bees, which is how I got the name "IamQweenBee
I wasn't even sure I would like this forum or any for that matter. So I used my dogs name Nikko and his propensity to snitch stuff and my interest in gem stones. I felt safe because no one I know would ever know it was me except they might be suspicious of the sarcasm. I think this is a great forum and enjoy all the opinions and would never intentionally hurt anyone except my son who makes fun of me and runs and I can't catch him! I guess thats what they make rocks for. Peace.
Jane is my real name and CM are the initials for the company I work for. I thought about using my whole real name, but I am a bit timid about using it online...go figure!
Mines just the name I want to be known as, I made it long ago when I was new on the internet for a Game and I kept it with me for about 7 years now.
~thranax~
I wanted my name to be a mystery. i got my inspiration from a Blooywood film - Dhoom 2.

I have a fear of heights. Which has, for reasons known only to itself, extended to flying. This last year, I've been on seven flights. So obviously I'm almost down to my last nerve ending.I'm not too bad with the flying part and love coming back down (for obvious reasons) but I remain ever puzzled...
