Who has been the best ever US President and who has been the worst ever?
Jefferson rocked UNTIL he got to president.
The honorable Ronald Reagan, may he rest in peace
.
He's up there in the top ten. But, I think Lincoln was the Bravest, Clinton was the smartest, and of course, Dubya was the worst...ever, and forever!
Palin, if elected, could give W a run for the money.
Lincoln suspended habeus corpus, exiled a congressman for speaking out against him, never freed a single slave, invaded a foreign country (or, if you don't like that, he invaded sovereign states of the union), he trampled the constitution, and he wrecked the monetary supply of the time. He also launched an all-out-war policy against civilians.
Lincoln sucked.
Lincoln as Evan said was credited for stuff he never did. Read the Emancipation Proclamation and you will see that is says nothing the US history books says it did. It only made Slavery Illegal in territories and not the states already formed.
In the beginning of his term he was indeed wanting to protect slavery and the sovereignty of the souther states. However the coward that he was he caved into political pressures to keep his presidency and came up with the most famous flop speech in american history. Lincoln is only popular with people who do not know the truth of his presidency. He was a sorry president a weak man and a joke on his best day.
Which made him look a lot like this guy:
And his name starts with "B" and that rhymes with "T" and that stands for "trouble..."
Brigham Young.
Another good leader and example of marriage and family values of America.
Hole-y, more like it. Walk across the plains and get back to me.
Which marriage? He had 56 wives. Which one was the good example of marriage and family values in America?
The same Ronald Reagan that labelled Neslon Mandela a terroriist eh?
Way to go.....
Yep, the very same, even dead he's better than Obama.
You can worry about Nelson Mandela I'll worry about things that actually matter.
Like arming Iran, Iraq and the Mujahadeen? What about the idea of trickle down economics which has been proven to be ridiculous, but Conservatives still spout it? What about the deregulation movement? Hmm...well, what about waging illegal wars in South America and allowing the smuggling of cocaine by the CIA which resulted in the crack epidemic of the late 80s and early 90s? Tripling the debt? Amnesty for illegal aliens? There are a few of the Conservative ironies there. We can do this all day sir. How many do you want?
Presidents should be measured by the impact they made on the country's people for good, not how popular they are. That would put Washington, Lincoln, Cleveland, Reagan at the top, and dead last would be Obama, Carter, and Johnson.
they should be measured by how much they abide by the constitution.
They have almost all failed.
Ron Paul is never going to be president, sorry.
unfortunately. He's probably the only Congressman who's ever actually read the Constitution.
Lincoln does not belong on that list and certainly not second, read a history book.
It's not all one way or the other. The truth is the truth. Lincoln did some good for the US. Better than a plantation owner, or a northern railroad robber baron.
For whatever it's worth most historians rate Lincoln #1, Washington #2, and FDR #3. Some put FDR #2.
Historians rate Lincoln #1 For his desire to reunite the Union. However The average person thinks he freed the slaves and that makes him a good person. The truth is the man was a tyrant who trashed the constitution, and advocated the burning of souther houses, rape of southern women, and murder of souther men trying to stop this, what ever you want to call it.
The point is, most of the US thinks he is #1 for something he never did, or even wanted. People site the emancipation proclamation all the time and they have not one clue what it actually says.
Best- George Washington
Worst- Obama, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, Carter
GW...he was the first and got to make all the ruless + he used the dollar as an ID card ![]()
MARY TODD LINCOLN ......sorry I thought you said most handsome.
I would have to go with Roosevelt, Washington, Lincoln and Teddy. As for the worst, Grant, Taft, Bush Jr.
The best president was Ronald Reagan and the worst was George W. Bush.
I am an Indian. For me, the best US President is Mr.Abraham Lincoln and the worst is Mr.Nixon.
Best because Lincoln was the simplest of all presidents.
Worst because Nixon was unable to analyse the circumstances around him.
I agree with that .Every Indian student studies Abraham Lincoln's biography and his fight against slavery.
He was against slavery, but his mission was not to end it. Instead, he did a horrendous amount of damage to the country... I'll quote what I wrote above:
"Lincoln suspended habeus corpus, exiled a congressman for speaking out against him, never freed a single slave, invaded a foreign country (or, if you don't like that, he invaded sovereign states of the union), he trampled the constitution, and he wrecked the monetary supply of the time. He also launched an all-out-war policy against civilians.
Lincoln sucked."
i forgot to mention that he threw numerous newspaper printing company heads in jail for printing articles that mildly suggested that perhaps war wasn't the answer to Southern Secession. He also trampled over free speech.
He was a tyrant.
His fight against slavery? Yeah, that was never part of his agenda. It just worked out that way.
Lincoln was always against slavery. He entered the Civil War, hoping to preserve the Union. But as the water progressed, he also started to focus on ending slavery, which is why he issued the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.
Thanks Evan again you beat me to the bunch, now that I know some one here is telling the truth about this man I can rest at ease.
Lincoln was not against slavery, the only reason slavery ended was so he could get re elected. Lincoln believed he didn't even have the power to end slavery, the only thing honest he ever said. Emancipation Proclamation read it for ones instead of claiming it says this or that twits.
JKF was certainly one of the best US president. I guess US need more leaders like JFK.
Reagan-Best
Carter-Worst (so far)
I believe ya' need some History behind them to see how the decisions they made stacked up in the long term for our country!
I do not know why this is but on US coins all Presidents on the coin face left, except the penny Lincoln faces right?
Lincoln was a twit, read the emancipation proclamation and see if you still feel the same about him. The only honest thing he ever said, was he didnt have the power to end slavery.
0kennedy, I want all from before and even now
clinton and Reagan rock too
especially since i am canadian and have no clue![]()
i base all political views on their looks, so sue me! ![]()
I would vote for Jackson, but the Trail Of Tears made him one of the worst.
The natives were treated more then harshly, I agree.
But Andrew Jackson and his crusade against centralized banking as well as his grit make him one of my favorites.
Andrew Jackson was pro-slavery. He was a former slave trader and a major champion of slavery.
Jefferson Davis. hands down. This was an American who actually stood up to taxation and tyrants.
0Bill Clinton, has to be. Single handedly revived the Cuban cigar industry, and made secretaries worldwide much more aware of their precise job descriptions! He didn't start any wars either, which has to be a plus.
Yeah, Bill Clinton.
He didn't start wars.
He just sent troops to Somalia to be killed then displayed naked for all the world to see, while he was busy single handedly reviving the Cuban cigar industry.
He also holds the distinction of being impeached.
And for being convicted of perjury.
Great guy.
No past president was all good. Lincoln had his hangups and insecurities which did temper some bad decisions. However, his intent was beyond his own hangups, which if you read his writings, would indicate that he was forward thinking for his day. Far more than most Americans at the time.
Obama equates himself to Lincoln as a forward thinker. However, his premise of hope and change is based on a world socialism, not simply socialism for the US. It's far more reaching than US borders.
Other presidents were absolutely riddled with their own insecurities and ego. For all the good that Reagan did with his silver tongue and some good deeds, his presidency is the source of the Iran-Contra Affair. There were some pretty nasty coverups. Some of Reagan's economic policies set precedent for the mess we're in now.
FDR, right or wrong did what his two predecessors refused to do: save the country.By the time FDR got the New Deal in motion the country was already in a serious fire sale. And look at Social Security today. The New Deal was a mixed bag.
Johnson's ego got us into Vietnam. Nixon was a powermonger with a filthy mouth and willing to take anyone down in his path. Carter was as much a religious zealot as Bush and floundered with his own need to peddle his religion, but the ONE good thing Carter did was the Middle East talks between Manacham Begin and Anwar Sadat. No one has since been able to get either side to talk seriously about peace and equity.
W was deluded with his own mental illness, ego and Bible belt "God is on my side" thinking.
My thinking is that there is some good. The best good was actually accidental in most cases. They didn't realize at the time the far reaching effects of their policies, good or bad. Those who were less concerned about being right, less concerned about their fame and how history would portray them, who didn't let their egos rule them, usually did some good for the US.
I'm not sure that there is a good option for President in the future. Washington is more concerned about their power, influence, wealth, and standing. You play the game or you die. Obama is learning he has to play the game, or he gets nothing in return. Same as every president learns.
Best from my lifetime was Bill Clinton, worst from my lifetime was George Bush and his son George W. Bush. That is just my opinion.
How could a man this honest be the worst?
Ha ha, Ron.
Honesty has NO PLACE in Washington, you know that!
Last honest president was Carter - also one of the worst.
0Jefferson bought one third of the United States for A meager 15 million bucks. No president has topped that kind of territory expansion.
Abraham Lincoln was the best.
Andrew Johnson was the worst.
Truman has to be mentioned in any discussion of worst presidents or just worst people. His murder total in WWII was only outdone by Hitler and Stalin.

Obama is a fool. The man has absolutely no leadership ability, he is in way over his head, ISIS is cleaning his clock, Putin is treating him like a bitch, the Iranians are ripping him off, he didn't even have the common sense to come down hard on the rioters in Ferguson and Baltimore, he allowed...

A lot of so-called 'experts' are saying that if Peyton Manning wins the Super Bowl on Sunday he will be considered the best ever at his position. I never got to see some of the greats play because I'm too young, but I'm starting to think that Peyton could be the best ever. I've never seen anybody...
