Greetings All -
Does anyone know if UK spellings in hub titles, labels, etc are recognised by search engines? E.g. I was going to add a label 'watercolour' to a hub then decided most folk would expect to see it without the 'u'. Do the search engines use both dictionaries and/or do 'fuzzy search'?
They'll do a search to find instances of that word in a webpage. So pretty much as is.
Try it: watercolor vs watercolour.
Argh you got me hooked now

A massacre...
Thanks - that Googlefight page is good fun! But I hate the conclusion it's leading to - that a site using US spellings is more likely to be found. Not least because 'humor' without a 'u' is no joke!
lol
I use both ways. I spent years reading Irish and Brit news and the spelling grew on me so I just switch back and forth. Plus I hate to be thought of as an American. It's embarrassing with that moron in office.
I'm with you on that one!!
Plus, the UK spellings just seem more elegant, somehow. I've always felt like US English was the poor, dumbed-down cousin of real English. Which is what it is, actually

Interesting, though, about spellings.
Thooghun, I challenge you!

I had always wondered this question too..
I was never sure if i should ad my 2 cents or 2 pence!!
I think it depends on your target market. And no, you can have them both
When writing articles I often revert to US English, so it will exposed to a broader audience. And "easier" for the larger audience to read.
I will however use both US and the English used by the rest of the world for the tags if there are words being used that have the slight difference in spelling.
American spelling is more common on the web, for obvious reasons. But that could change, because Indian English is UK spelling, and the rate of growth of Indian 'middle class' is phenomenal. Watch this space . . .

For several articles, many keyword tools offer suggestions of spellings that should be capitalized, but are often searched for lowercase. Thus, it's tempting to include a few spellings of yugioh instead of Yu-Gi-Oh or star wars instead of Star Wars.So far, I've resisted the urge, but if a few minor...

Writing from Australia we use some different words to England and the US we also have a mixture of spellings from both countries.A classic example, in relation to an article I'm currently writing, is the word for sneakers. In England they use the word trainers, in the US they use sneakers and in...

I am based in the UK and such I would use British spellings for words eg I would spell "flavour" rather than "flavor" . When writing Hubs that are aimed largely for the US market, should I use US spellings for words? I do want to come across as phoney , but at the same time want...

Hello! I was wondering, do the search engines automatically pick up UK and English spellings as being the same word? If not,, which is best to use for best traffic results, does more of the world use US or English? I'm guessing US.Thanks!
