" Thanks to the recession, 2009 was one of the worst years for poverty in America in more than half a century. The total number of Americans living in poverty hit 43.6 million, the highest level in 51 years and the national poverty rate rose to 14.3 percent from 13.2 percent, according to data released last month by the Census Bureau"
..."Among the hardest-hit states are Louisiana, Mississippi and certain areas of Texas. States with the lowest poverty statistics include Wyoming, Hawaii, Minnesota and several East Coast states."
the recovery is really taking more time than I thought it would. everyone thought it would improve a few years ago but with foreclosures still occurring,I don't see any improvement for a while..

It's just statistics, what about reality? Do you really feel that poverty when you walk streets in America? I can tell that here in Canada, I don't see a lot of changes. Just traffic is impossible. After 7 pm I cannot go anywhere. Buses are either absent or come stuffed with people like crazy.
In the Detroit area there are plenty of beggars on street corners at traffic signals. There are plenty of homeless people and people on food stamps and other public assistance.
Detroit, perfect example of democrat leadership.
You're a badly scratched broken record. Whatever the problem is, blame the democrats. As somebody said you can teach a parrot to say "Blame the Democrate," but when you are finished it's still a parrot.
That's what I say about Obama whenever he blames GWB. And Obama's still a parrot.
Detroit is an industrial town, isn't it? Did they stop producing anything: cars, steel, whatever? Is everything really in China now? I am trying to understand to what extent everything is down.
The Republican, Democrat and academic political and economic establishment's blind devotion to free trade coupled with some bonehead mistakes by auto company management and the United Auto Workers hit Michigan, Ohio and Indiana hard. We have handed our manufacturing industry over to the Chinese on a silver platter. Some say unemployment in Detroit is close to 20% although the official rate is around 10%. Detroit suffers from being quite dependent on the auto industry. Chicago and Toronto are much more diversified.
You are all looking to a person, party or thing to blame and in life of course some are more to balme than others. BUT you are missing the whole point - the US economy has been drifting downward for over 20 years - and this is not a personal thing it is a fact that you have been a net importer for over 20 years. Fiddling with the economy and the bankers stealing your bits of money is a side issue - the overwhelming issue is that something must fundamentally change - between all of you the discussion would be more substantial if you were looking forward and not trying to defend little empires of ideology or prejudice.
