The mega-churches with 10,000 followers, are all hype, promoting recruitment and fund-raising, with a charismatic leader that convinces the flock to give their life savings to the church?

    Examples:

Casey & Wendy Treat, CFC, America
Brian & Hannah Tamaki, Destiny Church, New Zealand
Brian & Bobby Houston, Hillsong, Australia

These churches started of as tiny AoG or Apostolic pentecostal churches - which inflated along with the egos and wealth of the leaders.

are you surprised...most religions are based on charismatic leader promising something and asking people to contribute in form of time ,money or devotion...infact in Amway chances are earning money are more than falling for religion which promises something which can never be verified...

here's another one:  Eddie Long from America, with a current sexual scandal.

At least with Amway, you get some products to use.

Eddie is mentor for Brian Tamaki; Casey for Brian Houston.

Interesting that many of the senior leaders in these churches have had sex scandals

there is a system of thought which is very prevalent in this world, this is is described as worldly thinking
This mindset focuses on riches, glory, and fellowship within a commubity while at the same time instilling fear.
We see christianity as a part of this mindset. and it is easily seen because they have not deviated from the methods employ by those outside of their circle, even though these are the world in their way of thinking.

Their error is that they have not understood the root cause of sin which is simply a state of double mindedness. Seeing somethings as good and some as evil..
Thus by their doctrine they promote sin instead of providing the answer for it.

I think that's what chuches should be about - genuinely caring, and offering support in times of difficulty, not trying to impress with scary freak-shows that depend on huge donations of money to "make god move"

Too bad the only one who can be different is busy criticizing everything christian that moves. Its very easy to point the finger at others, but there are always 3 fingers pointing back at you.
The amway churches, hillsong and whatever other churches do not bother me. I have prayed for God to send me to a church of HIS choice and i am fine and content in a place of 35-50 people who never mention tithes, who love and teach from a king james bible...
        God took care of me
Others haven't asked him to take care of them.
Oh the simplicity that is in christ jesus (when reversed like this it is referring to the risen savior, jesus christ refers to jesus on the earth   FYI)

Mega churches = inflated entertainment centres that sell you merchandise. Impersonnal, loud, and irritating. Still I'm sure God loves them.

I don't go to any church, but if I were to re-consider for some reason it would have to be one of a very few mainstream, local-community, churches that have been in existence for ages.
