Proofreading Service Beginning and Limping

   Hello, Hubbers!
   
   Per a forum discussion from a couple of weeks ago, I am opening a proofreading service, aimed primarily towards Hubbers whose first language is not English and who need help with the language in order to remove the "substandard" label from their Hubs.
   
   At this point, I have begun a Blogger blog, and I have set up a PayPal account for receiving the small fee (but I haven't added the PayPal button on the blog just yet).
   
   My biggest question relates to Hubbers from India.  According to PayPal, PayPal does not accept Indian currency at all.  So, how do people in India pay for goods and services on the internet?  I understand that I will be able to specify what currency I will accept through PayPal, but what concerns me is that some of the people I wish to help will have added trouble paying.  What do they do?

      I have been using PayPal for about three years now - both for receiving and making payments - without any problem. I get my payments in INR - no problems with that either (The payment is actually received in USD in the PayPal account - I can convert it to INR before crediting it to my account)
      
      What may be an issue is this - if an Indian resident has just a bank account linked to the PayPal account - they will not be able to make the payment. They will need to link a credit card to make the payment.
      
      And yes - they can make a payment successfully if they have sufficient credit balance in their PayPal account.
      
      My humble two cents - you can go ahead and add PayPal - no Indians that want to avail of your services will face an issue with that!

         SiddSingh, thank you so very much for this information!  Yours is exactly the perspective that I wanted to hear.  As you probably noticed in my earlier comments, I really have no prior experience with PayPal; my uncertainty arose from my lack of understanding what I had read on the PayPal site.  Again, many humble thanks to you!

            Just as an aside, PayPal has an exclusive Indian version too - it is called PaisaPay (Paisa = Money). It is available to Indian web users on all eBay websites. As far as I know, at the moment it is available ONLY on the eBay network, and not otherwise (like PayPal).

   You could look into AlertPay, Pappay (essentially a Paypal competitor that is open to global users)or Moneybookers. Unfortunately I can't vouch for any of these services personally since I have little to no experience with them, nevertheless they may be what you are looking for.

   I've had several people ask me to proofread/edit for pay, but all of them have been in the US. I've thought about starting a similar service but just haven't gotten around to it. I've also had folks suggest that I start a "grammar hotline," but I wouldn't even know how to set up such a thing! lol

   WE, I'm heading over to your profile now to see the link.  I hope it's stupid-user-friendly, because I'm not sure just yet what you mean.  I'm guessing that as I check it out, it will become clear; but I will post back here if I have any question.
   
   Great suggestions, Thooghun.  I'll look into those and see if I can find anyone who does have experience with them. I'm also hoping some of the Hubbers from Asia will see this thread and send their ideas.
   
   Habee, I understand why people have asked you about this. You would be so excellent!  As I get a bit further along, I can share with you the process I've followed so far.  Or you and I might be able to work out some sort of collaboration - but so far each scenario I can imagine for doing that has some noticeable flaws.  Anyway, I'll be in touch!

   WE, that was indeed simple.  Excellent!  It was my first experience with a collaboration document and in fact with Google Docs, period.  I believe I'll plan to use that instead of Word documents, after I gain enough experience to be confident of the process.

   Can people in India pay via Google checkout? I have one. Also you could still use PayPal but use a standard buy button.
   
   That way they can just use their card, you don't need to have a PayPal account to pay, you just use your credit card.

      Here's what a newbie I am to online buying and selling:  I have no idea what you mean! Still, thanks very much for the tip.  I'll see what I can learn about this in the Google material that's available.  I would guess that on Blogspot it would be easy to add a Google feature.
      
      [PS, totally off-topic, to Bill Manning - I heard on the radio a few days ago that right now is a terrific time to purchase real estate in Orlando, and I wondered whether you were in a position to take advantage of a good market.  Just wanted to pass that along.]

         Well, I could be wrong, but I thought you mean that PayPal does not let anyone in India have a PayPal account.
         
         However you always have the option in a PayPal shopping cart to use a regular credit card without having to have a PayPal account.
         
         They may have any forms of payment declined from India however. So, you might try a Google checkout buy button. It's just like a PayPal buy button, only you use Google merchant, not PayPal.
         
         Yes, I know it's a buyers market down here in Orlando right now. I'm really upset with myself because I have no money to put down on the great deals I see all around me.
         
         Throw in the fact I work for myself, a red flag to banks, and getting a loan for a home is almost impossible for me right now.

            I don't actually know that for sure.  What I have seen in PayPal (I have only just set up my account) is that Indian currency is not listed among the currencies that are accepted by PayPal.  I don't know whether that means someone in India could have money in a bank, say in Australia, and use that for PayPal transactions.  I don't know at all; I'm just speculating. So I figured I would check in the forums - always a great place to glean information.
            
            
            This is what I need to learn more about, I guess.  It took me ages to read through the PayPal TOA, so I'll probably wait a while before trying to learn about Google merchant.  But I'm thrilled to learn about various options. Thank you so much!

               I think it simply means that you cannot receive payment in that currency. The bank or credit card company will then do the conversion to, say, USD. There is no need for the person to have a banking account in a foreign country, as long as the currency is convertible, which of course is the case with Rupees etc.
