Accourding to you which will be the best gift for 12 year old ?

   I want to give my son a gift for this christmas and new year. I was thinking to buy a mountain bike or a psp3 or a Xbox 360. Anything will do but My son is mostly intrested in tecnology and electronic things. Please suggest me what to buy.

      Ages 12 to late teens is a difficult time to buy gifts.
      It is an important transitional age.
      I can't suggest a particular gift, except for the one they need and desire the most -- your presence, time and influence.
      If there is a material gift that you can enjoy together, that makes memories between you and that gives you a chance to share common experiences and time together, it might be the best gift you have ever given.

      xbox.  psp3 is too distracting and could get him in trouble at school or he could lose it or get it stolen etc.
      Also, you have parental power on the Xbox so he cannot play games you don't want him to play.
      
      The bike is awesome but if he wants electronics then get him electronics.

               Does he have an MP3 player so he can download his favorite music? The technology changes fast and even if he's had one for a few years, it may be obsolete. Tickets to a show?

      Bike, I'd say. If your son's into technology, he needs to get out of the house and have more exercise or he'll end up just sitting in front of his computer all day. So the bike, for lots of reasons.

      Give your son the money with a card telling him how much ya love him and ya want him to buy whatever he wants with it.
      When he opens the present, and reads your card, give him another good hug and tell him how much ya love and respect him!!!

   Have you heard about that new motion thing for XBox? I think it's called Kinect.. It tracks your body movements without using a controller.
   
   Personally, I don't like to give kids video games simply because I don't want them sitting around playing them all day.  This looks like something different though, it actually forces kids to get up and move.  I'd probably get an XBox, and then get that motion thing later on down the road - if he's that set on getting a gaming system.

   If he's like most twelve-year-olds there's probably a thing or two he's got in mind that he'd like to have.  I think, maybe, finding out if there's one of those things he has in mind may be the best bet.  Different kids are different (although these days the electronics stuff seems to be "The Thing").  Some kids have a particular interest, though.  I know one twelve-year-old who loves music and collects Beatles stuff and Coke stuff.  I'd go with either trying to find out if there's one thing he's hoping to get, or else if there's something he's really interested in, and there's stuff you know he could use with it(like a kid with a guitar may like an amp - that kind of thing).

      Actually Lisa HW, My son aldready has a gituar and a normal one and he likes it a lot! But still thanks for the suggestion:)

         Then how about stuff to go with it.      My sons are guitar people (and grown up, by the way).  A couple of years ago "Santa" gave them each twelve-string guitars.  (I don't know if they use them or not, but they have them.     )  OR, if he has electric, what about acoustic (or the other way around).

   My 10.5 yr old son wants an xbox for xmas, they are all the rage with his friends. We have the wii, but he likes the graphics on the xbox - he is also very interested in technology,
   
   For his birthday last year he got an ipod touch, and he really loves that as well, because he is just getting into music. I know 12 year old boys as well and they all like the same things.

      Yes you are right Eleanor's Worlds, XBox graphics is much more better then Wii but Will is also good and looks attractive:) Now i am very much confused!

         Wii has more family games, but boys of your son's age seem to prefer xbox as they think it is cooler, from my own experience.
         
         My son likes games such as fifa 11, the graphics are much better on xbox. But then there are a lot of older games on xbox like call of duty and halo etc, that my son would love to play, but it not allowed to. There are quite good racing games though.
         Xbox has a lot of mature games compared to games for younger players, it seems.
         
         My son wouls probably love playstation 3 as well, but they are pricey.

      YES! LEGO. Just a good one with lots and lots of things to do with it. The most expensive you can afford. Mine were crazy about lego.

   Most of the 12 year old boys that I know could really do with swift kick in the pants for Christmas. What? Oh, yeah. PC thuggery, of course. How silly of me!
   
   I would suggest a book or a gift voucher from your local bookstore. Not enough kids spend enough time reading these days. Everything has be plugged in to the TV, computer, stereo, and make horrible noises.
   
   And the biggest thing that a book has over a video game? The special effects are better.

       Hi Habee:
       My granddaughter is 12.
       I gave her $200 bucks in cash and drove her to the stores so she could spend it on things she wanted...or put it away for a rainy day.
       She spent $100 and put the rest away.
       The reward I got was worth, in dollars...thousands! She gave her "grampa" a big hug and said "I love you grampa!"
       That hit the soft part of my heart and tears filled my eyes.
       What I felt was inexplicable!
       Love is not a powerful enuf expression of my feelings at that moment.
