I'm new to HubPages and still trying to get my head round most things, one thing I'm having problems with is signing up for Amazon. I've gone through everything but when it comes to payment I can't see any option for non US residents.

You have the option of being paid with a gift certificate which does not appeal.  A direct deposit which states you have to have a US bank account.  Or being paid by cheque, which is again in dollars and not much use to me.

Does anyone know if there is a way round this?

In short, no.  Amazon are in the dark ages when it comes to payments!

Your only options are gift certificates or a US $ cheque.

Most of us set the payout figure higher, so the bank fees on the cheque won't be as painful.  My bank charges me around $10 (Australian) to bank the cheque.

Wow, that really is poor.  I wonder how much it will cost me to cash a US cheque here in the UK.  Thanks for the quick answer.

Sorry, I saw "oz" in your name and made a wrong assumption (I'm in Australia).  I guess it would help if I read the thread title properly...

There are plenty Brits on HubPages, I'm sure one of them will drop in and let you know!

My bank charges £10 - I think most other banks are around that figure too from what other UK hubbers have said. It is a bit of a pain as compared to google's use of direct deposit, but unfortunately we have little choice.

Don't dismiss amazon because of this though - there is a lot of money to be made!

      Hi Andy,

Sign up here for UK amazon affiliate: https://affiliate-program.amazon.co.uk/

You must first determine if you are going to focus on US or UK buyers. Obviously there are more US buyers so the potential to make money is greater, but if you are writing for a UK audience then stick with Amazon UK.

      Hope that helps smile

The gift certificate option is pretty pants in my opinion unless you are downloading kindle books or something like that because it costs so much to have products shipped over (you can't use the vouchers on amazon.co.uk).

The minimum threshold for a cheque is $100.

You can use amazon.co.uk affiliate text links, but you are limited to 2 per hub.

Ah I never thought of the shipping, thanks for that. Maybe I will set it to cheque after all.

Take the US Cheque, it is free for Overseas users, but your bank will probably charge you unless you open a foreign currency account.

Teddy fan - you are giving the sign up for Amazon UK you need Amazon.Com the (American Amazon) for HubPages. This is something I took a while to discover.

That is the one to use with the Amazon capsules. I think there is a way of posting one link to do with Amazon UK products but I have never used it. Someone else might be able to advise on that.

Well I've already signed up for the US version, it seems I will just have to pay to cash my cheques, although until I start actually making any real money I have just selected giftcards/vouchers.  Will see how it goes.

Andy, you've done the right thing.  You can't use Amazon UK on HubPages at all.

Seems like Amazon are missing a trick with this one then, they should set up a UK version for us Brits.

Well, actually you *can* use your Amazon.co.uk affiliate code in your hubs - you just can't use it in HP's Amazon capsules.

You can insert your UK Amazon affiliate code into a link and/or picture capsule.  But as Susana said, you're restricted to two such links per hub.

If you don't know what syntax to use, this forum thread might help:

It's all very confusing, think I will just stick with the US version for now.  Thanks anyway.
