I immediately thought of so many Radiohead and Tori Amos songs,, but have to say Joy Division/New Order's Ceremony gets me every time, especially near the end of the song: "Avenues all lined with trees, Picture me and then you start watching, Watching forever . . . Watching love grow, forever . . . "

What are some of your favorites?

First lyric that comes to mind is by The Who:

"Here comes the new boss, same as the old boss."

And I can't forget "You can't always get what you want..." by the Rolling Stones.

Unfortunately I spent a lot of time listening to Van Halen, who are second only to Night Ranger for dull, uninspiring lyrics.

      "Everybodys talkin", by Harry Nilsson

      Everybodys talkin at me
      I don't hear a word they're sayin
only the echoes of my mind

      People stop and starin
      I can't see their faces
only the shadows of their eyes

I'm goin where the sun keeps shining
      through the pourin rain
goin where the weather suits my clothes

banking off of a northeast wind
      sailing on a summer breeze
skipping over the ocean like a stone

From Rascal Flatts' "I'm Movin' On"

"I've lived in this place and I know all the faces,
Each one is different but they're always the same,
They mean me no harm but it's time that I face it,
They'll never allow me to change,
But I never dreamed home would end up where I don't belong.
      I'm movin' on."

I think on of the all time greats has to be John Lennon.

      Imagine there's no countries
      It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
      And no religion too
      Imagine all the people
      Living life in peace..

      (From 'Imagine' by John Lennon)

Billy Brag has a lot of great lines. Here are a few personal favourites.

"As she made for the door, leaving me on the floor, I wished I'd done biology, for an urge within me wanted to do it then." - The Warmest Room.

"A wife has three great attributes - intelligence, a Swiss Army knife, and charm." - The Warmest Room.

"I saw two shooting stars last night. I wished on them, but they were only satellites!" - A New England

Right now I'm digging Pink's lyrics to Raise Your Glass.

So if you're too school for cool
And you're treated like a fool
You can choose to let it go
We can always We can always
      Party on our own

      So raise your glass
      If you are wrong
      In all the right ways
      All the underdogs
We will never be never be anything but loud
And nitty gritty dirty little freaks
      (Repeat Once)

Won't you come on and come on and raise your glass
Just come on and come on and raise your glass

One that comes to mind is Donovan's "Catch the Wind."

In the chilly hours and minutes of uncertainty
I long to be in the warm hold of your mind
To feel you all around me and to take your hand across the sand
Ah but I may as well try and catch the wind

"She said I can't go back to America soon
It's so goddamn cold it's gonna snow until June
Yeah, they're freezin' up in Buffalo stuck in their cars
And I'm lyin' here 'neath the sun and the stars....

Don't try to describe the ocean if you've never seen it
Don't ever forget that you just may wind up being wrong...

But women and water are in short supply

Don't try to describe the scenery if you've never seen it
Don't ever forget that you just may wind up in my song

Called all my friends on those cheap nightly rates
Sure was good to talk to the old United States
While the lights of St. Thomas lie twenty miles west
I see General Electric's still doing their best.

I've got to head this boat south pretty soon
New album's old and I'm fresh out of tunes

So please don't say manana if you don't mean it
I have done your lines for so very long
Don't try to describe a Kiss concert if you've never seen it

Don't ever forget that you just may wind up being gone
And I hope Anita Bryant never does one of my songs"
