What will get you to workout and what will not work

Overwhelming stress, discouragement, depression, limited time are the things that keep me from working out. And I had my share of each of them in 2010. But that year is dead. YAY!! New year, new life.

However, the really only effective way I've learned to workout isn't even about being committed and seting goals, it's about having fun doing it and enjoying the process of watching and feeling all the good things that happen as I do it consistently. Goals, however, do help in refining what I'm really trying to achieve.

That's where the real joy and fun of being healthy come from for me.

What will: Having a goal in mind with what I want to achieve from training.

What won't: Having no goals or direction with training

I find that my blue jeans can be my worst enemy and my best friend at times... we both have issues and when my Blue Jeans have the clearer head in our discussions, I sigh with contempt and hit the treadmill. smile

Hey, We are all time pressed, but at the end of the day - 20 mins a day can get amazing results. It is just about taking action.
I decided that I was getting a mid-life gut - so time for action. I get up 30 mins earlier and do some basic military workout style exercises.

My thing is to just do what I like and don't over do it. If I spend way too much time in there, I'll not want to go back.

Just eat less and spend an hour in the gym doing what you like, and do then some cardio, whatever you like the most. Sprints, treadmill, elliptical, Bike, you name it, choose one and do it at your own pace.

      At least stretch every day!

What will get me to workout is having my back and hips back in alignment - and staying there!  For the past 2 years every time I exercise I throw out my back and hips again, so now I've decided to wait!  (even a neighborhood walk would do me in lol)

What will keep me exercising once I start, will be habit along with the desire to be healthy.

ooh yikes yes. I only workout with 4 pound dumbells to protect my neck and yet I can play aggressive tennis. So, smart to listen to your body. If I were you and as I do for myself if I take time off of exercise for a while is to always focus on your core so that anything you do in time later is stabilized. :-)

A recent picture I saw of my a$$ has got me working out more (don't ask)!

I was shocked to see how flabby my once perky buns have gotten! So now I'm doing more jogging and work outs at home.

I've been doing squats and small weights. I have a complete bar cage for chin ups and other exercises (however the pest control guy that comes by once a week gives me a funny look when he sees it.) big_smile

Totally agree. Do you know even though I workout all the time for a living even that like everyone their are months I just slow down, busy distracted by something or another; that I get not out of shape really but lazy to walk to the room twice to turn on the light  or get up from the tv when I already sat down for the day etc. But once again, soon as I started up just one week later working out doing some small amount of cardio, I run to turn on the light and I jump off the couch. I noticed that the most last night. :-)

The thought of being in a bikini this summer is enough to get me to work out.

What pushes me to do more exercise is the great feeling I get afterwards! I'm much less grouchy if I've been exercising. That, and my clothes getting too tight!

What makes me not want to workout is my tiny apartment. There's no space to work out in here and it's too cold to do much outside, apart from walking the dog. Luckily I will be moving into a bigger place soon and hopefully will also be getting a treadmill. smile

Heh, if you have a tv and dvd player they have now amazing total body workouts that you can do in 15 minutes and if its too easy for you then you can do it twice a day. I do that now its my favorite

Yes, I like those too! I have a couple of workouts that I do on Exercise TV on Comcast. I guess I need to get in the habit of doing them more often.

I like to track my resting heart rate - when I see it rising I know I have been slacking off.  I have learned that when I feel my best, I have a lower resting heart rate.

I plan to work off my winter weight by doing a lot of walking in the spring. I am also tempted to buy another bike, and really get into shape. I need to do something before summer, as I have a friend who wants to photograph me for a possible calendar spot.

It will also help me fit into the buttload of jeans that I have that I can no longer wear. I'd hate to have to buy new ones when I have so many already.

Well, considering that I can't wear them, maybe I should call them a huge waste of money that I could have spent on something else. Buttload is just a lot shorter. But, I'm not at the wideload stage yet. LOL!

You have to be determined when you want to exercise. Do not procrastinate. Sometimes you are tired and overworked and your body just can't make it - that's O.K. Rest for a day or two. Get complete night rest as your body will be re-energised. Then get up and set time frames for yourself on exercising. Either in the morning or on evenings. Don't overdo - you can start for half an hour and increase as your body gets accustomed to the movements. Do not allow lazy thoughts to enter your head - that's a no-no. Invite a friend to walk with you, to use the treadmill with you, to do some stretching exercises with you. It is not everyday you may feel in the mood to exercise - do not beat up on yourself. Take your time but do not get discouraged. It takes time to get in groove. But please try to move your body and stay fit and healthy.

Only thing that will really get one to workout is oneself. I have had so many clients who found fitness for whatever reason. I have also met people who have been told by doctors to stop smoking and start exercising or they will accelerate their existing health problems.

Having said that, workouts should be (1) fun and (2)promote health. That'll keep you working out once you decide to start.

Workout is one way to keep you motivated to keep your body shape fit and healthy, and it is fun. I like to do treadmills and biking which I'm currently working on to build muscles in my body.
