This link shows a list of TEA PARTY CANDIDATES that actually voted FOR the Patriot Act.

HYPOCRISY!!! OFF WITH THEIR HEADS!!!
Less than a year in and they've sold their souls.
If you representative is on that list, demand they vote against the accursed bill of villainy.
I wondered how long it would take for the Tea Party to become just another tool some use to get elected. Business as usual in and around DC. Those who live and breath Tea Party will never admit that anyone who they voted for voted against their best interests. The Tea Party will continue to elect those interested only in serving themselves. Just like every other person elected in this country. Everyone has their personal representative they believe can do no wrong and this country continues it's headlong rush into mediocrity and/or destruction.
Not surprised by this or of those who will continue to blindly support these people in the next election.
I love that line!
Are you surprised about that Tea Bagger fact? I'm not. The baggers only seem to be a more radical, ultra conservative, right wing, extremist cult.
The Tea Party name suggests something entirely different than what they are, but, they are what they are and that is an ultra radical branch of the Republican party. But I do have to give them kudos on their name, it is marketing genius.
"Republicans hate the welfare state, not the surveillance state"
122 dems voted against it. Seems the stigma to vote for it or be labeled un-American is gone.
The most surprising was Bachmann. She always harps about the "gangster gvt".....what does she think the Patriot Act is???
Violating our rights. And letting the phone companies off the hook.
But--we are used to it by now. I used to fear speaking up...not anymore.
Really--no ACTUAL harm has come to me that I know of, just the potential harm from it, and the gall of it.
Remember buying books and wondering if they would "get me". "Children of the Matrix", "The Sorcerers Crossing"
Same thing posting a message on the Internet.....
All that is gone now..it's a way of life for us to be watched at every move.
Cameras everywhere, Monitering ALL our activity. http://www.lumpen.com/world/surveillance.html
Since 2002...maybe before. Nixon did it,,why not the rest?
Doesnt' matter if they vote against it...it's here to stay.
That's why these things need to be stopped BEFORE they begin! Unfortunately, we were boonswaggled back then.
Fear and Loathing in the USA.
"122 dems voted against it. Seems the stigma to vote for it or be labeled un-American is gone."
Isn't it your President that has continued Bush's policies?
Yeah, it is.
Yes, but you see--people aren't afraid to voice their dissent, as they were with your crowd in office.
"With us or against us" remember?
With Obama, you are free to be against him without fear of repraisals. Or without being called un-Amerian. Such a chilly America it was back then...it's so much warmer now!
So--why aren't you singing Obama's praises? Isn't he keeping us safe like Bushco? You DID support the Act back then, didn't you?
Of all the attempted terrorist acts against the US committed since 9/11.....over 70% of them have been attempted during the last two years.
Let;s see, who was in charge for the last two years.....
White Supremacists are the terrorists. IMO.
It's not incongruous at all.
They campaigned on one issue -- lowering the deficit -- that's the issue that defines them. And they are definitely digging in their heels and forcing the GOP mainstream to sharpen their knives.
But at the same time -- and in oh so typical fashion -- they are also diverting attention with this bogus new abortion law.
Distract, distract, distract. And maybe people won't notice when 95% of your actual votes are counter to what your constituents want.
In other words. Politics as usual. Pass the scones, please.
"They campaigned on one issue -- lowering the deficit -- that's the issue that defines them. "
I'd argue that their one issue was to make the government so weak that corporations would be able to do whatever they wanted?
While I agree with Evan on the Patriot Act, I don't think they make a guillotine that will separate a head from the shoulders when the shoulders are in contact with the buttocks.
Wait, the Tea Party did something that discredits themselves? Again?

The Patriot Act was meant to be short term but looks to become permanent. Does it go to far? Does it really violate our privacy rights?
