Yeah, I'm sure that this might have been covered somewhere, with all the changes people are making.
But, I've seen many hubbers eliminating or reducing their exposure to RSS feeds and some hubbers who participate in HubMob are leaving those ones in place.
However, I guess this question should be directly asked of Sunforged, but I'll take other opinions on the manner.
As a part of the 60 Day Challenge, we were suppose to put RSS feeds on the hubs...so what should be done with those, if anything?
I have RSS feeds on ALL my hubs. Should each be eliminated, except for the 60 Day Challenge hubs that were written. I've pretty much made adjustments as far as many of the new changes, but it isn't clearly been stated that RSS feeds should be removed.
Jumping the gun isn't something I like to do, without weighing out all available options. So, do weigh in.
Thank you in advance.
I have removed all of my "latest" feeds as potentially doing harm while doing next to nothing for readers or traffic.
On the other hand, I've left all of my feeds that, using tags, offer more of the same kind of topic to readers. I think that I get a good number of visitors that go from one hub to another and that is an obvious method of doing that.
Of course, I can't say whether either thought is correct or actually beneficial. Time will tell, or perhaps clarification from HP.
that's what I think.. the forums are full of too many chiefs these past few days, and there seems to be different perceptions of what has been said officially.
I'm leaving the HubMob feeds and a few HubTrail feeds, I don't use Hot Hubs, etc.
On the account page, it refers to eliminating RSS as the first full width capsule.
I wouldnt expect the rss feeds are helping or hurting. The footprint of the 60dc rss is far smaller than hubmob (far less participants) or a google/yahoo newsfeed that is pulling in text that appears in thousands if not tens of thousands of locations.
Its a non issue.
I also wouldnt expect that you would keep them solely because the feed was part of the 60dc. I certainly wont judge that as any type of breach of team spirit or anything of that sort, if they worry you in these uncertain times then remove the worry.
I wont be removing rss/news feeds that I use, at this specific time.
Hey Sunforged, thank you for your response. I wasn't worried about them. I'm wondering if the fact that they are not actually related, except for the fact that they were part of the 60 Day Challenge.
The "keywords" used for the RSS feeds, were not related to the Hubs themselves. Does that make sense?
Yes, it makes sense , they are navigational tools, not seo tools. Made for human beings in the know to navigate a subset of hubs within a greater portfolio of work.
Which is why I keep them as they remain dynamic navigational tools.
I see all possible permutations of any questions about a displayed rss feed that shows internal hub links in any capacity as being meaningless.
that is my opinion.
From Robin and Jason yesterday at HubCamp: The jury is still out so to speak on RSS feeds. HubPages has not made a decision for recommendations on RSS feeds.
If I understood correctly the issues are possible appearance of duplicate content, and the issue of spammy RSS feeds.
My example of my use of custom RSS feeds of my hubs in specific topic areas in an RSS capsule, instead of using a link capsule to display my related hubs, got Jason's blessing as non-abusive, appropriate use of RSS.

I'm trying to understand RSS feeds. I think the capsule is a reader that aggreates feeds from other websites, but I'm not sure

I am wondering about a new strategy i am trying. What I am doing is putting an RSS Feed into my best performing (Viewed) hubs with my latest (not indexed by Google) yet hubs. IS this a good way to have them "crawled"? Or is it better to add links instead so each hub stands alone?

What is HubPage's rationale in not offering an RSS feed of our Hubs?

On a hub what do you recommend as the maximum number of RSS feeds? How many do you put on your hubs?
by David 470 13 years ago
I have looked at some hubs about RSS feeds, but do not fathom them exactly. It seems like theirs a lot of steps unless I am overlooking this. This is where your supposed to get your RSS URL from right http://www.feedvalidator.org/ ?Then a hubber recommended http://www.feedcat.net/ .So do I first...

I think I learned how to put RSS feeds on my hubs today! I was only a person who went online for email, Word, and basic stuff until I came to HP. I feel really, really, stupid, but how can you see or tell without going into EDIT mode if you already put a feed on a particular hub? Not to worry, I...
