What is a Google site? Is it worth creating one for online revenue?

Google owners Blogger -- a site where anyone can create a blog for free. I have a few blogs up there that actually do very, very well.

Google Sites are actual free websites. But I think a Blogger blog will do better for most people.

I know. And I'd be surprised if anyone actually uses Google Sites. smile It's really more of a wiki-builder than anything else.

Right now, they're promoting Google Sites in Australia as a good place for small businesses to set up their own site.  I haven't even looked at it though.

It is a free website hosted by Google. I find it limited. Good enough for an individual or small organization. I think you will find less flexibility compared with a self-hosted site.

If you get your own domain name and map the Google site to that, you can always change the site contents completely. If you do not use your own domain, you may regret that one day you have to migrate to a different domain.

I had my personal site at sites.google.com for a while. It served me well, was fairly easy to set up and got decent traffic once I figured out how to do the site map. Now that I'm comfortable doing slightly more technical stuff I've moved to my own domain, but Google Sites are a good place for a beginner to start learning things.
