Why are people posting so many religeous or spiritual questions in a forum for Writers?
Is it that some just like to start arguments that cannot be proven either way?
Or, the more likely, are some using forums for doing their religeous service instead of going house to house and getting the door slammed in their faces?

One month its politics, the next religious posts.

      I don't know why...

For some, they draw inspiration for some parts and then write about it. Some are ignorant and looking for an argument.
Some are delusional in thinking that what they say, actually makes sense. They try to dress up a irrational understanding and passing it off as rational.
Well, this would be foolish and show you the mentality of those who actually do just that. It shows you they have no love for self, because otherwise they would want contact with their follow person, and not be inside a public forum that holds them inside their home.

Either way, most people fail to realize their own actions and the consequences of those actions, so it's actually nothing new.

Well, if Hubpages creators didn't want this forum to be used, they would have never created it.
With all the drama in here over the last three+ years, they have had every opportunity to remove it.
It's a good place to discuss and debate.
As to your "door to door" objection, I say, no-one is knocking on any doors. There is no compulsion  on you (or anyone else) to enter. It's purely voluntary. smile

      Peter, in a word: oppugn;
And it seems neither side can lead or end the battle, so long as each needs to oppugnāre the other.

Anything. Whatever comes up. Talking to union guys yesterday. Course if religion comes up I tell anyone I am a Pagan. Can't find anybody that has a problem with it - face to face.

Not trying to be cute, but most of these kind of discussion are argumentative. Why do that to yourself?

"Agreed. Same here... (Religion and Philosophy)"
I talk politics mostly. Difficult to find people who can talk philosophy.

Yes it is. I have a couple friends and we get together once a week and talk "philosophy, theology and whatever". You know what I have noticed, there are not many people who are comfortable talking religion topics in person.

I find that the only people who have trouble debating religion, are religious themselves.

Some people think that is raher odd, but I think it is just because they know they cannot defend their belief.

        1. DoubleScorpion profile image78
DoubleScorpionposted 13 years agoin reply to this

I have one or two friends that are of the Christian faith. We don't debate religion, as they ask questions and freely admit that they are lacking in the knowledge base of the bible itself. I don't try to change thier beliefs in any way. I only offer insights to the questions that they have, and that allows them to draw their own conclusions as to what is meant (for them) by what is written in the bible.

"most of these kind of discussion are argumentative. Why do that to yourself?" Sorry to disappoint but they almost never arguments. I don't argue with strangers.
It is discussion. If it is argument it is for the fun of it with people I know.

There are several hubbers I've noticed who are here solely to post on the forums.  Religious forums exist and so folks post on them.  I think for a few there's an ulterior motive.  For others, I think it's about simply beginning an actual religious dialogue.  Most often, I think it's completely innocent in nature.  Other times, I think it's just about arguing and being right and proving that one or the other is smarter, more enlightened than the other...

If you're primarily interested in writing, post on the forums under Books, Literature, and Writing.  Stay away from the religious forums and religious questions.  Writers are going to write about whatever moves them, but forums draw a distinctly different type, in my opinion.

Religious people have to go out and spread the god's word everywhere like a rooster that spreads ... you know what in a chicken coop. Every time I go out on weekends, I am besieged by superfriendly old ladies with religious books in hands. What's so special in my face that they all are trying to catch me? I cannot figure it out yet. sad

Either they think they are saving you from the hell that their "all loving god" is going tosend you to for not having heard of him or they think they will be rewarded themselves in the afterlife for spreading the nonsense.

I usually try reverse psychology on them. As soon a I see they are going to stop me, I go into sales mode and say "Hey, I'm glad you are standing here - what you really need is a new pair of walking shoes since you stand so much, I have this great new shoe I designed and I'd like to tell you about them ..."
Most times, they  try to get away from me faster than I want to get away from them.

    Peter,
Why are you shocked to find people discussing religion in the Religion forums?
You will find them talking about sports in the Sports forums, politics in the Politics forum, and relationships in the Relationships forum.
    It's all writing.
Were you perhaps expecting recipes in this forum, or short story advice?

My point is Why have any of these forum topics on a Writing site. If the forum was about writing religeous articles, fine. But they are not.
Should I google religeous forums and then go to a large one to discuss Writing style and making money from writing?
Seems to have no purpose relative to the website.

      1. DoubleScorpion profile image78
DoubleScorpionposted 13 years agoin reply to this

You can find opinions on writing style and ideas on how to make money in here as well. You just have to ask the question. Alot of the discussions that happen in these forums, spark an idea in someone and they write a Hub based from the discussions.

        Good point.

I guess they didnt expect the interest would be so high ,since there are several other topics to post under smile

To be honest when I first began writing on Hubpages ,I thought Religion( like other topics) was something that adults discussed.

Sadly its not like that at all.
As soon as an opinion is expressed ,its like the gates of hell are opened.
