Hi! I'm new to HubPages and I'm enjoying the site and community. I saw that there's a large contingent of fiction and poetry writers on here, so I thought I'd use HubPages for writing and developing my own fiction. But I did have a question about that...
How long is too long? Should I break my fiction up into several separate but linked hubs, or should I do it all in one big hub? I already know I'm going to break my 24-pager into chapters and do a small serial; but for shorter stories, is there a "proper" way to handle that? I don't want my hubs to fall into the TLDR hole, but I also don't want to break them up if that would seem odd.
Any and all advice is appreciated.

Welcome to Hubpages
I'll wait for Website Examiner to answer your question as he is the authority on the subject of Novel writing here
I personally feel that Hubpages is for informational articles, with a distinct small subsection for poetry.
I would not put fiction on Hubpages. That belongs to something like fanfiction.net or one of the online writing groups, but then that's IMHO.
I write creatively here to. What I do is I break up my stories into chapters. One hub will feature one chapter.
The one thing I do is I don't excede 3 pages on a word document. I want to make sure I cover everything, but also I want to keep people's interest. A lot of people don't like to read long hubs.
Well, I guess it depends on you really. Everyone has different feelings about it. Some people will say that writing 1500 words would be good. Some would say that 3000 words would be good too.
If you are going to have hubs longer than 3000 words, then you have a chance of losing your reader, unless your content is able to hold their attention.
I've several hubs that are on average 1000-1500 words, with small paragraphs, so as to flow from beginning to end. I wrote a hub on my life which is 3400 words long and I didn't want to break it up into two hubs, which I could have done.
It's a choice you make and you can analyze your results via Google Analytics, with regards as to how long people stay on the hub. If people do not stay on the hub and it is extremely long, then I guess the assessment would be to break it down into two smaller hubs.
I hope that helps.
One thing is what the search engines like, another thing is what readers prefer. If the hub gets too long, many readers simply won't go through with it.
Posting longer works of fiction (serials) is never going to be easy. Some have their novels, and hardly received any visitors or comments beyond the first chapters.
Try to visit these Hubbers: Kaltopsyd, ACsutliff, and Dobson. They all have serial fiction, and have done rather well for themselves.

HI. I sorta like HP. I find some of what the rest of the people here have to say interesting. But let's be honest. I'm hear for the backlinks. I am writing hubs as part of my SEO. Problem is I can't get my score over 66 much less up to the 75 mark and I'm getting tired of it. I hop hubs every day,...

I feel concerned that the reason google may prefer ehow as opposed to hubpages, is because there is an abundance of poetry and short stories. I am not by any means saying that those who publish the short stories and poetry are not good, but they are not usually searchable or high market. I...

I can't seem to find an answer for this in the learning center. I have a large set of articles I've been writing for a while + some time on my hands to dedicate to Hubpages for the next couple of months. Would publishing 10 hubs a day benefit or disadvantage me, both in terms of hub score /...

I don't know, maybe this is just a disgruntled Rant by myself, alone.I call myself a Writer. By default, this makes me a Reader. And, as someone who has the arrogance to think I am good enough to call myself a writer and a reader, I have opinions, on my works as well as the works of others. So, with...
