George Will - "Steady 5 percent growth probably won't happen. Also, his pledge to get federal spending down to 18 percent of GDP is very hard to do with an aging population and a welfare state that exists to transfer wealth to the elderly."

A lot of people, myself included, believe in the 'welfare state' at least as far as Social Security and Medicare are concerned. We worked for decades and paid into a system with the expectation we would have a measure of security in our senior years.

The gang who was elected to the House last election promised to cut spending by eliminating wasteful spending. Voters thought that the teabaggers would go after illegal aliens and welfare queens.

The Ryan budget eliminates Medicare as we know it. George Will expresses where the 'waste' is that the Tea Party will cut. Social Security and Medicare. The script has changed since the election and the truth is out there. Seniors are the target.

This is happening for a reason - so billionares and multi-national corporations will not pay taxes.

The question is what the sane conservative will do now. Stay home and not vote? (Likely.) Vote democratic? (I doubt it.) Vote for conservatives who will make victims of seniors? (I don't believe it.) Or rebel against the choice and create a sane & responsible conservative party?

Sounds like if the D's went after the "Welfare Queens" and "Illegals" they would have LOT's of support. No one wants to do that though, do they? At least if someone made a clear distinction we would have a choice to make that didn't involve choosing the "lesser of two evils". Bottom line Doug, is that people are NOT wanting higher taxes and they DON'T want to take care of their seniors. I get it when you say:

"We worked for decades and paid into a system with the expectation we would have a measure of security in our senior years."

I think your right. I also think we need a detailed account as to WHY YOUR MONEY ISN'T THERE. These monies were NEVER intended to be bowrowed against, pilfered or otherwised robbed. They have been. Further the system is riddled with fraud.

they take and take and take, then leave you with a target on your back!
40 years paid in taxes, 40 years of payed in monies for goverment requirments
40 years of outlay, and I am a target.

    "sane & responsible conservative party?"
It's a winner take all system not parliamentary. There can be only two parties. The only choices are: the lesser of two evils or not vote.

So what happened to the Whigs?

Look it up. When you do your homework, you will find that political parties come and go and the fascist organization that the GOP has become, was once the home to progressive ideas.

It doe not "eliminate" Medicare... that is a straight lie. It fixes it from the insolvency the Left and Progressive Right have built into the system. And lets not forget that SS trust that was supposed to be untouchable to the pols, that they spent their way through.

Seniors are not the target. And as I keep saying, get rid of all the unions in our govt, and we would have a ton of savings. Also... building a more Conservative and sane party, are what me and mine are doing.

And you all talk about my avatar being insulting... that word teabaggers is a real insult and you all act like your so intellectually elite slinging it around. When in fact you sound like a bunch of 6 year olds in a school yard who have just learned a new dirty word. Grow up.

I could care less if you are insulted or not. I find it comically ironic that you lie in the first sentence, while calling something a lie. It doesn't fix a damned thing. It ENDS it. You are old. How are your medical bills? Care to pay for all of them with $15k? Then again...you guys are the ones who want to end it; you guys are the ones who's main constituency are old people...SO, just like getting your constituents to vote for economic policies that hurt them, you are trying to convince them to essentially kill themselves. It is kind of funny really. What happens if you win? What happens if you end Medicare and start giving out $15k instead for all of the elderly medical expenses? You and your party....die. I can try to give you my heart all you want, fight for your rights, but hey...if you want to kill off your party, I'll watch it on tv while on the treadmill while I keep my young body in shape. Why not? If you really want it...take it. Try to win an election when that happens.

    Consider this if you will:
If we were to place our hard earned money into a bank account for decades, adding to it regularly to watch it grow as well as gain interest over these decades, and then when we were ready to withdraw our expanded and interest rich money were to discover the bank had inadvertently spent it, that would be a huge crime! So how it differs in the governments scenario of "we used your Social Security so it's no longer there" is well beyond what I know to be truthful and honest.
I in no way expect or trust that I will see ANY of my hard earned social non-security when I come of age in a decade or so. And that is criminal.
I placed my money, on good faith with a supposed trusted government agency (I know oxy-moron) with an agreement of future financial well being. The rush of disappointment races in as I realize they are going to fail from a fiduciary standpoint. Again, it should surely be a crime.
It is integrity that suffers here, the America I know and served, would not betray and steal from its oldest and most honored generations simply for votes. Frightening to think that the law makers are blatantly breaking their own laws, and right in front of our faces. Suddenly I feel we have a King rather than a free Government.

This is a huge understatement RB! Again, I feel as though we have been over taken by a king rather than being protected by a free government. Has it always been (throughout time) such obvious tyranny and exploitation? Possibly as I mature my sight grows clearer rather than cloudy when it comes to politics.

But they do, there are many in the UK with private pensions that are worthless but the people running the pension funds walk away untouched, rich but untouched.

It seems to me in both our disgusting societies, (UK and US) the gutless administrations only go for those who can't fight back.  The young (draconian school fees); weak countries who can only make token resistance to our pitiful armed forces and the elderly who are mainly retired and looking for a quiet life after having worked for 50 years for little reward.
Now in Britain, they are putting the statuatory retirement age up by several years to begin soon.  So you can die before you cost them too much. There is also hostility in the National Health against the aged in too many cases, plus shocking behaviour in Care Homes - bullying and mind-games - by those supposed to be caring for the elderly; many of whom are helpless to resist.
Now assisted suicide meets little redress in the courts, no doubt many of our beloved seniors will be coerced to swallow the hemlock and shuffle off this mortal coil.  It will be a relief the way things are going.  Diogenes

And they have done it all under the fable of helping the poor and elderly and those in need, so called social justice and welfare.

funny how the generation that SCREAMED for eugenics, abortion on demand and better living through modern chemistry is now fearing the reaper. Actually it's not funny at all. It's sad. They did it to themselves and now want their "come upins" and someone NOT responsible has to pay for it. But hey, the Government REPLACED Family. So be it, let the government take care of it.

True as the day is long, CJ. A bunch of dope smoking whoring hippies that were deluded by the colleges and unis into their lil Socialist revolution dreams.

Sad state of affairs it is indeed.

And you need abortion when you have free uncommited sex with everything that walks or breaths. I like how they claim we need the illegals to support Soc Sec and our economy... when they are responsible for slaughtering whole generations, millions of American children who should now be grown and in our workforce.

          What a joke!

Yes--the behavior in Nursing Homes is scary. I just heard a story of a woman who fell and broke her neck.....she died and they didn't do an autopsy! Said it was "natural causes"...Her son tried to sue, but couldn't get through the wall...so now he has taken it to civil court.
        No oversight *cough* *cough*!!!
Here on Cape Cod, it's a big monopoly of privately owned homes....have heard horror stories too.
I once cleaned for a nursing home....they made sure we never got full-time hours, so they could avoid paying benefits....not a problem in public sector jobs.
Plus--they think they can maybe avoid the "Medicare problem", by shifting it onto Medicaid...but that's where the Nursing Home dollars comes from!!
Meanwhile, they want to lower taxes on the obscenely rich...it's obvious what they are doing.

Anyone who still believes them is quite idiotic in my view.
Just give then your money and say Ce' La Vie!--They can use it for their luxury trips to Switzerland to vist their money, while the rest of us eat dog food and wait to be abused or homeless.

Ahhh Baggers.....heartless as the day is long.
