Hidden Backlink?

In another thread, a Hubber posted a comment that apparently has a hidden link in it (an IMG link).  That is, it does not show at all in her comment.  But when someone else replies to it, the information about it shows up in their reply.  It's very weird.

My first reaction to it is, How did she do that?  It's something odd and interesting, even fascinating, and I would like to know more about it, just out of curiosity.

But of course the real question is, Why would anyone do that?

I am assuming that it is for the purpose of creating a backlink that will not be quickly detected and that may give juice to another site for awhile before it is deleted.

What do you think?  How and why?

I imagine it is just a new way to spam with a lower chance of getting caught. Maybe when you put IMG tags around a url it disappears, let me try.

    Ah, I see

The picture freeimagestocks.com/content/64/grey.png is only one pixel high.

Someone is trying to siphon pagerank in a way that won't be detected?

      Something like that!

Same hubber, different thread, same technique.  I'm reporting, how about you?

Thanks for checking, PS!  It's a situation I haven't run into before, as far as I know.

Yeah I did, let staff work it out from there smile

I guess it is similar to he Amazon affiliate code in a way.  It also uses a 1x1 pixel image.

I think we must have been working in conjunction with one another and staff.  Each time I went back to report another of the posts, I saw that the previously reported one had already been removed!

    High Five!!

I don't understand the Amazon affiliate code yet, but maybe one day I will. smile
