Does it bother you?

I find it annoying that some whom I follow would leave their hublinks in my comments. I already follow this person and have read their hubs and comment on them. They  do it to every hub they read, I have noticed it. I don't know how you feel about it but it annoy the hell out me but am too polite to deny their comments.

    Hey Cardisa,

If the link isn't related or relevant to your hub, then delete the comment itself. Keeping it does you more harm than good.

Thank you Cagsil, I wondered about that.

IMHO it is spam, delete with extreme prejudice.  Letting them get away with it just encourages them to do it to everyone else's hubs!

Agree with the above.  I like comments, but when they are clearly just a look at me thing, or the person has just left a load in quick succession, or they have links to their stuff (how rude) then Deny is the right option.

Same with Fan Mail too.  I get a fair amount of empty fan mail.  Like I want that on my home page.

At first I was less sure, because every fan, comment at the starting point is precious.  But there are more than enough genuine people on this site to make up for losing a few.

I think we can judge the sincerity of comments and base judgments for handling on that.  I wouldn't say a blanket boycott of mentioning a link is necessarily good or bad.  Usually, though, I would expect a sincere comment to be capable of expressing its point right on the comment screen.  It's obvious when someone is using others' sites or hubs to advertise their own stuff without regard for the content of the person's material.  That is despicable.  I feel similarly about folks who must go through a list of members and "follow" pages and pages of them without so much as glancing at the people's works or commenting on it  I don't automatically follow people just because they follow me under those conditions - do you?

I barely follow anyone Nellieanna.  It's not meaning to be rude, it's a question of time and inclination to read / follow people.  Those I follow - I read and comment where sensible to do so.  I can't do that with hundreds of people.

So I actually think it's less rude to be honest about it.

Yes, Mark.  Time was when I tried to follow every post by anyone I followed/followed me.  But I do have a life.  haha.  And everything really doesn't interest me or merit the effort, I guess.  Even if it does, I'm not that omnipresent.  So I check for people I really want to keep up with and/or subjects which attract me.  Occasionally I like to encourage someone new who has a lot of promise.  But futility is not my preference and sometimes it's just not the time or place for someone.  It's the nature of life.  Can't do everything and really wouldn't prefer to!

@Nellie, I feel the same about the so called followers. I am grateful for those persons who follow me but HP has a set of person that all they do is follow. They don't even read their won emails to see what's happening on HP. I have 176 followers and half of them don't know I exist... lol

There are those that leave links in your comments that are welcomed due to the reason. But this particular person (a male) does it for his own advertisement.

@Mark, I get the empty fan mail thing too, but it doesn't bother me as much.

The other thing I don't get is the  'Great hub. voted up!' or something like that. I mean, don't you have anything to say. If I read a hub and I can't find something constructive to say relating to the hub, I just don't leave a comment at all. I think people who do that sort of commenting don't actually read the hub at all!

Cardisa, I hope I haven't added that comment on anything of yours. I know I've done it on some other hubs, but I only do it if I really want them to know that they've done a really great job. Some hubs I read all of the way through and just don't have much to say that day.

Hi Barbara, it's not the occasional comment that I find really annoying, but the hubber who does it every time they read my hub, they never have any thing to say. I am sure I can understand that it's not everyday that we want to leave a comment.

Yes, Cardisa.  Those are so obvious.  Pitiable, really.  I get so much out of the hubs I choose to read.  If I am not moved to comment, I either give it another look or just leave it alone.  Those of us who also acknowledge comments really shouldn't have to try to give an intelligible response to those "great hub" type comments.  But I can't ignore a comment if I let it stand and they're not offensive enough to delete. I try to look at it from their perspective but they don't provide much to sink the teeth into! haha

I would have no qualms about deleting the ones just seeking bandwidth for advertising their own stuff, though.

Nellie, I feel the same. I just went through and deleted those comments with unrelated links, as Cagsil advised, because they will harm my scores.

It's not that the empty fan mail bothers me, it's that I don't want it on my home page.

Three of the fan mails show each time someone checks your profile.  So it's better, I think, if those fan mail comments say something good about your writing.  They are another small part of the self publicity thing.

Therefore, as I am totally self obsessed, shallow, and eager to make some money anyway I can - I am selective about which ones I accept.

I agree with you Mark. What's the use sending a fan mail if you have nothing to say?
