Watching the niners this weekend I think they are going to be better than I thought. 8-8. Might even slip into the playoffs. Here's why.
Less mistakes at QB. One thing the niners did well was limit the opportunities where Alex Smith could hurt himself. They weren't efficient in the red zone, but they didn't throw interceptions either.
Secondly, this team will get better this year. The defensive and offensive lines will be much better by game 8. With a new coaching staff it takes time. Especially for the O line.
Lastly, the Giants aren't going to make the playoffs and SF people will start to get excited about this team. At the SF Giant game Sunday against the Dodgers, the stadium was packed. On TV the 49ers looked like there were lots of empty seats. I bet Giant fans will get excited about the 49ers and start going to games. This team will play better in front of a full house.
I thought, when the season started, that the 49ers were the most talented team in the division. Until Stephen Jackson can stay healthy for more than 4 weeks at a time, the 49ers have the best back in the division, a true game-breaker at Wide Receiver and a stud at Tight End. Their division is the weakest in the NFL, so I'd see 9-7 and the playoffs for them.
Forty Niners will win maybe 5 games this year. They tried so hard to lose against the Seahawks but thanks to Ted Ginn they overcame. Frank Gore is very good but the Niner offensive line isn't very good. Their QB's are awful.
Wow! what a surprise the 49ers have been, I would have guessed the same thing with a new coach and under performing players from last year. This year they look like they'll win the division and be a force in the playoffs. I'm wishfull of a bay area superbowl but the stars and planets will need to line up for that to happen.
The 49ers are in a weak division. Look at the starting QBs of three other teams in their division. I think they shouldn't have a difficult time winning more than eight.
Go Lions!! Make Matt Millen look bad.
I think its az divison to loose but the niners and rams can win it!
Steve Spagnuolo said Monday it's the worst injury report in his three seasons.
4 starters injured in game 1.
Danny Amendola, suffererd a dislocated left elbow, and offensive tackle Jason Smith has an ankle sprain. Cornerback Ron Bartell their leading receiver from last year is likely out for the season with two breaks in his neck.
And then of course there is Steven Jackson, who has a strained quadriceps muscle in his right leg. There is no set timetable for an injury such as Jackson’s but Spagnuolo indicated he’d be out this week and then be day to day next week.
Bradford hurt his finger but he is expected to play Monday night.
The Rams comes to play the Giants Monday night. And the way they are looking The Rams will probably run them down injuries or not.
All I keep thinking , is how nice it would be to see Spags back home on the Giants sideline.
The Rams can win it if they stay healthy. Thats the bottom line.
Barring a string of injuries, Arizona will win this division and then maybe a playoff game.
The niners did look like a better team. I think 8-8 is a good goal for them.
Go Lions. (not on the bandwagon, lion-sufferer for years).
Lions are looking strong. NFC North is possbly the strongest division in the NFL. Look for 3 teams to make the playoffs.
I think the Niners play at dallas this week. That would be a huge win for them, but I think it's unlikely.
I don't know, Dallas seems to find a way...
I know but I just wanted it to be clear . . sometimes you just need the full picture
The 49ers have had an impressive turn around after a slow start. They are looking like a 12-4 team now. They should win the NFC West and maybe even get a first round bye in the playoffs. Harbaugh is doing a nice job.
12-4 would be incredible. This team us over achieving, but one thing they're doing really well is protecting the football. That's keeping them in games.
They're looking pretty tough right now. Harbaugh seems to be a great motivator, having done this previously at Stanford and even with the Colts as QB. He didn't have a great arm, wasn't that accurate, but seemed to find a way to win somehow.
I doubt that this is their year to win it all, but the future looks bright.
Plus he knows how to extend a strong congratulatory handshake or whatever you call it. He is enthusiastic and determined to win.
13-3
They do look good right now but for how long? I dont think anyone should be surprised that harbaugh has turned them around! He was captain comback, comes from a coaching family and is smarter then alot of coaches.(stronger then one but we wont mention her I mean his name)
They have played with every team they have faced, and should be undefeated right now. They will easily win the NFC West, and they will be more like 12-4 or 11-5. They do not have a coach that will allow them to get in to a terrible losing streak. Everyone seems to be forgetting that Alex Smith was a 1st round pick, and has huge potential to be a very good QB in this league. This is the first year he has the support of his coach, and he is responding well. I just am not seeing how they could be viewed as an 8-8 team?
Their only fault is Alex Smith. The 49ers make it as far as Smith can take them. I just don't see him doing much more. They are near last in passing offense. I believe 30th. They can't continue that. They are an above average team, 10-6.
The running game has been strong. This is Alex's shot at developing into a pb qb. 10-6 seems like unbelievable progress.
Alex Smith has not turned the ball over this year very often only throwing two picks. And the fumble he committed last week wasn't his fault he was blind sided by an unblocked defender that's on the o line. He's played well and the team is based on the run anyway Alex smith has played just fine and will only get better as the season goes on. Meanwhile he has continued to make big plays in key situations. Most of his 8 touchdowns are in the 2nd half.
They'll be better than 8-8. They're already at 5 wins and their remaining schedule is pretty favorable. Cleveland, Washington, St. Louis twice and Seattle. That's 5 more wins right there. They should finish at least 10-6. They also have games against an inconsistent Giants team two games against Arizona so they could finish 13-3. I don't think they will be 13-3 but they could. I think 11-5 is where they'll end up at. But then again they could be the 2011 version of the 2009 Broncos. Start out hot and then completely fall apart.
I hope the 49ers won't be like 2009 Broncos because then the NFC West will have another division winner with a under .500 record.
I tell you what when GOAR go over a hundred yards rushing the 49ers are awesome.
I think Alex is gonna make it happen this year
Although I bleed silver and black., I believe the 49ers are a playoff team because the coach has put a Alex Smith is a better position to succeed. 49ers have a solid defense, great coaching, and Al Gore is heating up. The only team in the 49ers way are the Packers.
The 49ers still have much to prove. I am still not bought. I will let you know once they play Baltimore and Pittsburgh.
In the 49ers' games again the Lions, they had to overcome a lot of offensive penalties to win the games. That makes them special. The Lions didn't close the game when they had a chance.

The Giants and 49ers were both underdogs this past weekend, and both came away with a win. Now they'll play each other for the right to advance to the Super Bowl. Who do you think will win this matchup?

In the NFC West, I think the 49ers have mainly improved with their head coach. I'm not sure that they've actually improved at other positions. I think they'll be close to the playoffs, but not quite make it.The Rams, and Seattle should be better this year - I suspect one of them will...
