         I have been using it too! It's a great service for starters. I have started a website as a testing ground for my new wordpress site, before I buy a paid hosting and launch the site completely.

   If I am correct, you cannot have a subdomain unless you have a paid domain, and pay for hosting. Hub pages, as far as free goes, is the only FREE platform that provides a subdomain.

   Check out wordpress.com you can have a free subdomain (yourname.wordpress.com) and upgrade at any point when you want to buy your own domain name and find a host -which I'd recommend godaddy, hosting really isn't that expensive and they do have great plans supporting wordpress.

   Yes, 000webhost is fantastic. I've hosted 4 sites there, and their service quality and response is excellent.
   
   As i do provide website development services to clients, including wordpress and joomla, I usually setup a sub-domain for each client for testing purposes (000webhost allows u to setup multiple sub domains, all for free). Once the client is happy, I export the developed site to their custom domain.

      Im very surprised to hear this, 000webhost has a long history of being unreliable and useless for a site of anything more than the tiniest of sites with very little traffic.
      
      Im not disagreeing, as I only tested once and quickly put on my big boy pants and paid the minuscule costs of paying for a host.

      most of the responses agree with you! .. but I would consider the "bad neighborhood" comment and see if the risk is worth the 3-5 month!

   There are 2 wordpress as well.  One is free, while the other is not since you need a paid domain name and hosting.

      Catch is that - you're using their software on these subdomains. Sites like webs shows their ads on free blogs. Wordpress.com doesn't let you use aff link on their blogs.
      In case of free hosts they let you choose any software or file to use with their own control panel. So there are two types of free hosts out there - one that comes with pre-installed blog scripts and second that lets you choose what scripts to install.

    As per my observation- 000webhost, X10hosting and few other post2host sites that offer Cpanel are struggling to maintain uptime.

    That's tricky, because free hosting sites are by default typically less secure.  I would go with GoDaddy because their economy hosting plans are so cheap, the total cost of ownership (TCO) of your domain  is low and your return on investment (ROI) is high -- making it well worth the few extra bucks.  GoDaddy is reliable and extremely fast as far as any bandwidth/consumer access concerns.  They have pretty good security for the low cost of the domain combined with an inexpensive hosting plan.
    
    With as many malicious hackers that are prevalent in today's internet environment, I would stick with a tried-and-true company with a pretty decent rating as far as not presenting you with security risks that you would have with much smaller, free hosting companies.
    
    Just my 2 inflated cents anyway.

    wordpress and blogger are very easy to use, but I just pay a small amount and use Dreamhost and absolutely love it!

    Wix is another free website. However, I have read complaints, not so much about the site, but due to the fact that the sites created are flash websites and take a long time for Google to rank them and that flash web sites are not popular with Google.
    
    The best thing to do is to hit the internet for reviews of the various web hosting.  I would bet Host Gator is the most popular.

    I have read a lot of complaints about Dreamhost and customers rate it with a lot of 1's being the worst of ratings.  The best thing to do is to try various free web sites, such as weebly where you get free hosting.  Before you pay, do a trial run with Free.  If unhappy with Free, you will be unhappy if you pay, for sure.
