Polls and Other "Clicky" Things Increase Ad Clicks

   I read a study and I'm seriously beating myself up for totally losing the link...
   but it said something like:
   
   If you have clicky things on your websites such as polls, quizzes, and other sorts of things that readers who participate in said "clicky things" they are more likely to click on an ad. They get in a clicky-mood, so to speak.
   
   So, since I lost the page where I found the study, I am planning on trying it out myself.
   
   Basically I'm going to
   
   Add polls to hubs that do not already have them
   Remove polls from hubs that do already have them
   
   And for each hub, I'll compare the click percent difference.
   
   
   Example:
   "Hub on 10 Awesome Things" has no poll
   Add a poll
   Wait x amount of time
   See if the CTR for this hub has changed
   
   I'll share my finding with everyone, but I want to make sure I get everything right. Anyone have a suggestion for this? Also, if you want to try it out too, share your findings. It would be interesting.

      I just turned off HP ads for a  week to try out something. Trying out two different things won't work out so I'll wait for your results

   let us know how it goes, generally I am not sure how a poll is going to increase ad clicks, there are many more factors that help increase a ctr, I feel like this would be minor. 
   
   However, testing is always the way to success

   My thing is that I want to make sure I test it correctly. It being the holidays, I think CTR may be higher given that people are buyin' more stuff.
   
   So what would I do for a control?

      Use hairspray or gel, use a nicotine patch if necessary and wear Depends.

            Are you seeing any results? I know it's early. I haven't had time yet to do any, but I do want to add to some of my hubs when I get a chance.

   I would suggest that only revelant polls would have any effect, if it exists at all.  If you just throw in some silly thing that has nothing to do with your hub is not only going to be ignored, but it may hurt you.
   
   I'm sure you intend to create appropriate polls, but I suspect the lazy would just throw up anything.

      Absolutely, I agree.
      If people add them and they don't relate ... well, they get what they deserve.
      If they are relevant, it's a good way to keep people thinking about your subject a bit.

   Yeah, I haven't set everything up yet. I've got to do some magic data entry (not really magic, more like super boring-ness) for all my hubs so that I can best record the results.
   
   I'm going to discount two hubs that I did some major updates to because things may change with those in regards to CTR because of said changes.
   
   If I can't find a suitable poll idea for a hub, I'll just I guess use that hub as a control or something.
   
   One thing I've thought that might affect the clickiness is the proximity of the poll to the ad. The ads are all the way at the top and I usually put my polls at the bottom. I figure by the time the user gets in the "clicky mood" they've passed up the ads. I'll just put them at the bottom for now and then down the road perhaps I'll run another test.
