How many people ask a question just to start a conversation, and why?
So many of these questions are such old cliches and worn out philosophies that everybody must have heard it before. I cannot conceive that they are genuine questions.
Next, if someone really wants an answer, it's quicker and more accurate just to research it on the webs.
so, an answer isn't really wanted. It's just a means of wanting a conversation...
People have said they only do it for the accolade...
How bloody Sad is that?
What's wrong with good old fashioned Loneliness, or that overrated Friendship Thing?
I struggle to understand the lack of communication skills among those with accolades!
This.
I think some people also believe it will help their earnings.
The questions and answers and accolades are generally just mechanisms that HP uses to get new hubbers to interact with the wider community. That's my conclusion after being here a year. I have been a little irritated myself with some of the stuff that a minority of people come out with as questions, but I rarely bother with questions and answers nowadays - especially the general ones like "what is the meaning of life?", and "what is your favourite animal?".
I like to ask questions just to see if anyone is paying attention. My questions are usually off the wall, but I find that asking a question about homosexuality or god will bring a landslide! Both mostly made up of hateful remarks.
I also find that the answers people give is cheap entertainment. For example a friend of mine honestly believes that President Obama is the key to all of this countries current problems. So I asked, don't you also believe that our lame duck congress, and those currently running for president and past presidents are equally to blame for the mess we are in?...and let the games begin!!
Asking what your favorite color is...usually ends up with red...blue...green. never something clever like "deep sea aqua." Or "Tangerine Sunrise." I'm crazy like that.
I remember this one guy who couldn't stop asking questions. I mean, he asked them back to backk, and you know he was bucking for an accolade. Most of the questions weren't worth asking or answering. Haven't seen him since he went on his question binge. I also can't stand the people who post personal questions on the Forum and don't even have one Hub published. If you post a personal question on the Forum or expect advice for your love problems, expect to get hammered with all these ridiculous comments. People will pick you apart.
I don't bother asking questions because there's enough of them already out there.
I admit to asking dumb questions when I started purely to get the accolade. Thought it was important, and got hooked into that 'collecting' thing.
When I realised you had to ask fifty or a hundred to get the badge I gave up.
It will probably be the one badge I don't get.
Apart from the hole where Hub of the Day should be, which I may have mentioned before as a minor irritant in my otherwise serene progress through my writing career.
Is there really an accolade for asking questions? I never knew, until I read this topic.
I suppose this is another dumb question to add to the rest, as it is already answered in the responses above.
I do n't get the wanting to collect accolades thing at all, I think they missed that out when they programmed me. Or as my grandmother would have said to me
"You were behind the door when they handed that one out."
Yeah I didn't know that either. But, I think if you are asking questions just to get an award, it's nothing short of brown nosing. I also think it would leave a person frustrated when they run out of lame questions to ask.
I think it was Steve Martin who said that he figured that there are people out there that will fill your head with so much garbage, eventually you won't even know what your saying. For example...instead of saying.."May I use the restroom?" You'll be saying..."can I coo coo banana pants to the cabbage plant?
that of course was mainly for children, and people who don't know english very well. But, it made sense.

So, are you just answering/asking questions to get an accolade? I am.

Why do prefer answering questions to asking questions? If the other way around then why do prefer that?

Is it necessary to close all the questions to get the accolade for 10 questions?? if yes then please tell me how can i close the question. in the old "my account" it was easy to close but now in this new one i don't know how to close the question.

Why do we have daily limits of questions that we can ask on Hub Pages?I get cut off after a while from asking questions. I ask question nto necessarily because I don't know the answers, but to sees how others differ in their response. Why limit the number of Questions!

When asking questions on HubPages, do you post "thanks" or replies to people"s answers? With the changes to the Q&A section of HubPages, I was wondering what the question etiquette is.

Are you a question asker or answerer?I try to ask at least one question a day but I don't really answer any. I am nearing 500 answers to my questions but have only hit about 20 answers myself. What do you do more?
