This.. ahem... generation.... took this work of art:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M6gkd1YZIWA
And copied it into this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dXqBftu0gQg
:::::::lowers head in shame::::::
I think I wanna vomit now.
What do you mean by "this generation"? I resemble that remark! Haha
I like both of them. Although I hadn't heard the first one... the girl in the first video is gorgeous.
Ah yes that is a problem. I'm sorry
It's like taking this classic song:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpmILPAcRQo
And giving it to the Black Eyed Peas to turn it into this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwQZQygg3Lk
... I know how you feel.
The first one is atrocious beyond explanation. The latter as least has Will.i.am in it and I like him, so I give it a pass...a side eye, but a pass nonetheless.
Carl, ahh, finally got home to view your links... I see which songs you're talking about now. Yeah, Black Eyed Peas did like a more dancey version of the original, because the original is more slower. While I can't say I really like the Black Eyed Peas version due to the amount of auto-tune and the fact that they are trying to sound like everyone else who is out right now, I will admit that I feel something more was going on in that song compared to Mindless Behavior's lame remake of "The Kissing Game".
See, there's nothing wrong with remaking a song as long as you can deliver something original with it to the table. If it can be done as equally as good or better, then great.
Here's an example of a song that was remade and the remake doesn't sound like a piece of crap:
Original: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u67S-KgDkUM
New Version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BONCwGvYvsA
One thing I love about this one is that you can barely hear the original sample in the new one, maybe a little bit.
I don't see what the problem is. There is nothing wrong with either version of either song. I enjoy seeing how different artists personalize material and make it their own.
not able to see those 2 vids of yours, carl, at work right now but im glad u see what im talking about.
regarding my 2 links...
the 1st one has a lot of soul and feeling in it, its genuine heartfelt r&b that u can dance to and feel good.
the 2nd one is the opposite of that. it took the chorus of the 1st, gave it a sped-up cookie cutter beat, and the vocals (or lack of in this case) are all using autotune... which is a big problem with todays music. nobody really sings anymore. even rappers arent rapping anymore, now they sing.
at least tony thompson of hi five had a beautiful voice, i mean how can you not be gripped into the song by that voice? it just makes the lyrics glow and come to life.
recording your whole voice in autotune spells laziness. we need to bring back the era which that 1st video was from.
0It's just a matter of taste. Also people forget that they themselves are a large part of the music they enjoy. If you're out in a club and hear a certain song it will likely stick with you and that will form part of the reason why it means something to you. Eventually people get to a point in life where they stick with what they know, and lose touch with what people are keyed into now.
I think it goes a bit farther than "a matter of taste". An older person from the 50's who doesn't like the 80's music, for instance... that sounds more like a matter of taste.
But this... this is more like a matter of distinguishing "music" from "noise". Maybe 5% of today's music sounds like actual music, but most of everything else (including the Mindless Behavior link I posted) is just a bunch of noise.
Oh I see what this is, "Shameless Promotion," and it worked! I went over and checked both out. ![]()
What exactly do you mean by shameless promotion? It's not like either of those videos belong to me or anything, I'm not getting any credit for when you view those videos on youtube.
I don't see why there can not be as many versions of any song, simply because we are all different, which means we interept and percieve differently as well.
Different genres, ages ,cultures etc.
My hubby gets very protective( overly if ya ask me ,lol) of certain classic rock musicians. He doesnt know them, they dont even know he exists ,yet he has this bond.Cute, but not too realistic, lol.
As to the OP as being sad and disgusting, um ,definately dont agree with that statement. There are many things sad and disgusting in this life, music is seldom one of them.
Eagle,
Read my replies above, including the one with the 2 new links I posted. I said there's nothing wrong with a different/new take on an old song as long as its a "different" and "new" take, not something that seems like it was half-assed just to make a quick cash-in and with that awful auto-tune. Those guys don't have a distinguishable sound, they sound like everyone else on the radio, they're all jumping on the same band wagon.
Can't we have artists that sound different? This is was one thing I liked about the 80s and 90s, I can tell Janet Jackson apart from Paula Abdul, I can tell Jodeci apart from 112, I can tell SWV apart from TLC. Now, everyone sounds the same for the most part. Maybe not every single artist today, but most of them. Alicia Keys definitely has a distinctive sound and she's actually using her voice.
P.S. In the context of music, I felt that its sad and disgusting. Of course, there's worse things, but I was talking about in the context of music alone.
you mean 80's version. the remake is bad and will I am makes it even worse.
Yeah, I know. Most of these remakes we have nowadays are about as good as the "Star Wars" prequels, if you catch my drift. If there's such a thing as bad movies, then there's such a thing as bad music as well. For every "The Devil Inside", we have some bad remake song like Mindless Behavior's "Kissing Games".
Auto-tune has now become the CGI of music. They are both things that were created with good intentions in mind, initially, but then it got out of hand at some point and now these two industries abuse them to death.

I'm curious to what people are listening to at the moment. I'm addicted to Lady gaga - born his way and Enrique Iglesias - Tonight (not his style at all). I've been playing those on repeat
