My name is no longer hostage to Vista Print! Got my name website now

   Ahhh...learning the hard way I guess. A couple years ago I registered my name Dorsi Diaz domain with Vista Print and realized what a BIG mistake that was. My name was hostage for a couple years and finally came available again so I just registered it with Go Daddy. Is Hostgator still one of the best ways to go? I need an easy place to build my site.
   
   And I got the .com site. Yeah!!!

      Dorsi, I think you've already had this answered in another thread and have signed up with Hostgator.
      
      I just hope you know NOT to use their website building software.  Use Fantastico to install Wordpress instead.  You won't regret it.

         Thanks Marisa. Yes I am trying to get my Wordpress set up through Fantastico. I am challenged when it comes to the more technical stuff. I could not get my Wordpress site in so finally got into Hostgator chat and they said I had to update my nameserver.
         I remember when I did this a couple years ago it took me almost all night to figure out the FTP thing, the C Panel, Fantastico and installing a new wordpress theme. I shouldn't have stopped back then because I retarded my learning process ( I let the website go after a few months, dumb me)
         
         I just have to relearn everything again now. Sigh.....
         
         And Sandy) Buy your domain through someone like GoDaddy. VistaPrint has restrictions on what you can do with your site - at least mine did. I did not like it at all.

            Dorsi, ask them to give you step by step instructions - and once you've managed it, you might also like to bat your virtual eyelashes and ask them if they could set up Wordpress for you.  They did for me!
            
            You don't need FTP if you have Cpanel and Wordpress.  You can upload most things from the dashboard within Wordpress, and for the odd occasion where you can't, you can use the File Manager in Cpanel. 
            
            I know a lot of people say FTP is "easier", but what they really mean is that it's faster if you have a lot of stuff to upload.  It's not easier and for small amounts, it's not faster either.

            It's not that there's anything wrong with the website builder - I haven't used it. It's just that there's so much more support for the Wordpress platform, with a host of plugins to do almost anything you could ever want to do.  It's possible to create a very powerful site with Wordpress, without having a clue about programming or HTML.
            
            Plus a Wordpress site is easily transferred to another host if you decide to change, since it's the same everywhere you go.

   I don't know the whole details of the vista print deal but if you can get the url of your name.com prefferably you should register it you never know when you might want to use it. By then it could be used by someone else or a company. Also it's a good idea to register your kids names as well so when they are much older if they want their own url's they can have them because surely by then they will be gone.
