Jesus Today

   Theoretically, if Christianity hadn't happened yet, and Jesus were to claim to be the son of God, would everyone just pass him off like Scientology?
   Don't misunderstand me: My question isn't "what a tragedy if such were to happen," and that "prayer is the answer," my question is more psychological. What is different now from then? Is it our more guarded philosophies evolved to combat the exploitation of said philosophies (everyone being slow to believe anything because of fear of being taken advantage of)? Or is it that events 2000 years ago were shrouded in mysticism because of lack of records, which allows for some margin of belief in fact through the unprovable (being able to believe in something that can't be disproven because there's no evidence to support either case of existence or non-existence)?

      in todays time it is not possible for any one to claim to be god or god sent or prophet or anything....

      Odd question. It would be interesting to have someone make that claim. Even if the miracles of the Bible were true and those were the miracles manifested today, it would be next to impossible to convince every soul that it wasn't some type of hoax. Claims of a resurrection would also be viewed with suspicion. It would still be blind faith, short of an appearance by a god. Which would, of course, be viewed with suspicion.
      
      Honestly, at this point, I have no idea how a god would prove himself to be one.

      Only God could answer this question.
      The reason being, that Jesus came according to the Father's will, at the appointed time. All scripture before His coming (IE Old Testament) pointed to Him coming when He did.
      
      One of the main purposes was to die a sacrificial death, which would not fit into any society today.

      I cannot speak for everyone, but I speak for myself. If Jesus were to arrive now today and begin by stating that he was the son of God, and then proved it by his actions and by his teachings, I would not have a difficult time accepting His as He claims.
