I'm trying to expunge my account of all EBay products since I just realized they don't pay a commission and instead only pay pennies on large sales.  Is there an easier method than going hub to hub and deleting them?cool

Nope smile Unless u want to just delete your affiliate code and keep the capsules. Sorry, but there's no other way - that's for sure!

Heck no, Lobo!  I do not wish for EBay to make a dime off of my hubs.  I'll continue to delete them manually if I have to.  Thanks anyway, though!  smile

Randy, I know you're going to remove them but, just as you said yesterday that you'd be removing your affiliate code too. So, I was just joking smile I don't think there's a way. You'd have to do it individually. And who knows Google may see it as a change and freshness update - Could get you a boost in the SERP's if you're lucky cool

Wow, thanks for the unintentional heads up! I'm a newbie though I've written quite a bit already. I'm going to go easy, if at all, on my eBay capsules from now on.

Glad to be of service and to save others the frustration and wasted work of using these almost useless capsules.  I didn't understand we don't get commissions on the sales of products on EBay.  By using EBay capsules I am losing $40 or more per sale on certain products on my niche hubs.  If a hub writer cannot create sales hubs and only rely on someone merely looking at their hubs then EBay and HPads may be the only way to make a few pennies.

But if you can gain a bit of traffic in certain niches and make a few sales, then it's better to use only Amazon and Adsense and don't bother with the in-house programs.  Just my opinion, of course! smile

He sold a $500 item and got just the value for the click. Unlike Amazon that gives you a percentage of the sales amount. So, he's getting rid of the Ebay capsules as that could increase the chances of sales through Amazon on those hubs. I guess I'm right - Randy Correct me if I'm wrong smile

I assume you're referring to eBay's Quality Click Pricing system. It's horribly difficult to understand - I still don't entirely understand how it works.  It's not as simple as a value per click, though.

The way I understand it, what you get paid for your sales is on a sliding scale, depending on the overall quality of traffic you're sending to eBay. If he's not earning much, that suggests eBay judges his quality of traffic as low - which usually means a lot of people are clicking on the ads but not buying.

It's disappointing, because when HP launched their eBay program, they suggested that we'd get a better EPC score by being part of their bigger program - but it looks like the opposite is true!

I have ebay caps on just 2 of my hubs at present and they hardly show relevant ads even though the keyword is perfect. So, I've managed to get a total of around 10 clicks and 3 sales but the amount I got totally is still less than $0.5. The items I sold averaged a price of $25 or so.

It is rather disappointing to sell over $1000 worth of products and get paid pennies for it.  Who exactly gets the commissions on these sales?  By having EBay on my hubs I am competing with my Amazon products which DO pay commissions on all sales.  I have a choice of making pennies or making dollars for the same products.  DUH!  Therefore I am removing all EBay cpsues from my hubs and would not recommend those who make even an occasional sale to waste time with it.

I don't feel HP fully explained how screwed up the program is to those used to getting a real commission on product sales.  I care not for any of the in-house affiliations and prefer to deal with established companies rather than those which are not very transparent and which leave room for unacceptable abuse by Ebay and those companies promoting it.  Others may do with it as they wish, of course.  smile

There is another difference between eBay and Amazon, though - the cookie.  With Amazon, if they don't buy immediately, you get no commission (they're the only affiliate program that does that, BTW).  With eBay, you still get paid even if they go off and think about it - you get commission on any purchases they make within the next 30 days.

You're probably in an unusual position, in that you're able to advertise very high-priced items.  Most of us are advertising more low-value stuff, so the difference in commission isn't so marked, and the longer cookie gives us more sales than the "sudden death" Amazon cookie, so it balances out.

Hmm I have Gardening hubs (non sales) and kitchen hoods (sales) but I use HP Ads for now as they do better for me and Amazon on my sales hubs and ebay on the gardening ones.

I only use eBay on hubs I expect clicks but not sales.

No idea about mass removal, sorry!

Oh, and if HP goes to a similar program with Amazon products, i will have no further reason for writing here.  I do NOT recommend anyone using the EBay program at all.  Someone is making the commission, but not the author responsible for the sale.  Crapamundo!!

Hey Randy you got it wrong. That's the Ebay program. If at all HP goes with the amazon program then everything would be the same just that the % we receive would increase - at least for most people who don't sell much.

Hmm lol As far as I've seen things are getting better in terms of traffic now and many are reporting increases in traffic - it was hard to see earlier. Whether its because of some changes or just some random stuff is a whole different story

There are also many reporting losses in the last few days, Lobo.  Some are those with hubs on the new formats.  You've only been here 7 months and don't have the luxury of observing past aspects and mistakes of the site.  I certainly do hope things get better, but am not holding my breath waiting for it to happen.  smile

I think it has a lot to do with what you write about. Mine have small sale items and I earn 30 times from eBay what I do from Amazon. When I had Amazon on all my hubs, I could get over 200 clicks and never make a sale. I agree that eBay should be paying more on those big items though.

        1. Marisa Wright profile image85
Marisa Wrightposted 12 years agoin reply to this

This is exactly what I mean.  With Amazon, you're going to lose sales because the buyer has to buy the same day - whereas with eBay, they can take some time to think about their purchase.  So you're likely to have a higher conversion rate on eBay items, which compensates even if your EPC rate is low.

One thing to be aware of is that YOU influence your EPC rate by how you advertize.  The more people click on your eBay ads without buying, the lower your earnings per click and the less you get paid.  So don't use an eBay ad unless you think you've managed to put your reader in the mood to actually buy what you're advertising!

Randy, thanks for posting information on how eBay can affect earnings.  I haven't used it yet, and this gives me things to think about.  Maybe you could hold a 'Find Randy's eBay Capsules' party and get a bunch of us to look at 10 each of your hubs (by date published or something) and report back in.  We'll pretend you bought the drinks.

    Hi smile

I was wondering what to do, if anything, about Ebay. I had signed up, but never used any capsules.

I think that I have decided not to bother smile
