President Barack Obama vs. President Empty Chair

   It seems funny to me that a man can be judged by his own ghost. Every President in the history of this great country has promised the moon and stars and given us some of what they promised and more headache and angst when they leave. But this President seems not to  be fighting to keep his job because there is actually an opponent on the other side, but that he has not done all he said he would do. The right wing media has set this up as a battle of Barack Obama of 2008 and the current President but what does that say about the candidate they have chosen. Do they not find him worthy of the challenge. We were all witness to the political prep rallies the past two weeks and we seen two parties tell us what they dislike or try to rebut what the others were saying about them. Some of the rhetoric states President Obama is not going to mention Israel (which I don't see why that matters cause we don't live there) but that became a talking point. I did find it interesting over the last couple of days while I was watching Fox news that every time someone brought up the fact that Mitt Romney the man hoping to become Commander in Chief did not once reference the men and women in our military they would automatically cut to commercial. It's time to be honest with ourselves this is not a battle between President Obama and Mitt Romney many people are going to make decisions based off the argument that the President has not done all what he said he would do, but what President ever has. The problem with conservatives is they wished their ticket was flipped because honestly President Empty chair has more fortitude and resolve than Mitt Romney. 
   
   Can't wait for the debates!!!!

      Spot on, Chenard. The president can lay out a vision, but he is not a dictator and has any number of variables that can and are in the way. For this president it was a stubbornly unsupporting GOP opposition. It also was a economic disaster the depths of which was really misunderstood by everybody.I am satisfied that the current president has applied himself to the greatest extent possible under the circumstances and I trust his instincts that his efforts and directions will be applied in the interest of the many rather than the few.
      
      Yes, bring on the debates, let's see how Mitt performs in an national audience that are not necessarily adoring fans.........

      It must be mentally taxing, trying to outdo each other among the sea of Obama zombies.  I feel like I’m watching MSNBC. I guess the memo containing the democrat tactics to win has reached you all. Hope you are enjoying the division those tactics are creating in our country.
      
      There are so many things to comment on in this forum, but it would just be a waste of time. Any true fact based criticism of your beloved Obama only falls on deaf ears.
      
      The current democrat motto: It’s not our fault, it could be much worse.

         There is no division in this country. The only division that exists is the conservatives movement to just say no and sit in the corner. Now we get to debate sequestration and how wrong the President is for not coming up with a solution when Rep. Ryan backed it as showing fiscal responsibility and the republicans considered it a victory.

   No duh the POTUS hasn't achieved everything he promised in 2008.
   He underestimated the complete meltdown of an economy he was walking into.
   And he underestimated the unflinching opposition in Congress more than willing to sacrifice the American people for their agenda.
   He did use his Dem advantage prior to 2010 well, though, to get ACA through.
   Among many other huge accomplishments he gets no credit for.
   
   The biggest problem with Romney is he's not Romney anymore.
   He is the new right's Manchurian candidate.

      MM - do you remember this video from Super Bowl XLVI. Clint Eastwood’s Super Bowl Chrysler Ad Stirs Political Waters . ..  Republican accused this ad made by Clint of being politically biased.. . slogan was  because America “knows how to come from behind to win. I say its a long way from his empty chair. .

         As the day was epically historic for me (I should say US), of course I remember!!
         Right up there with the previous Detroit renaissance ad with Eminem music.
         That one was killer.

         Will be interesting to see what others here read into it!
         
         BTW, I saw a segment on the Chrysler resurgence on 60 Minutes last week. Does it weaken the "roaring back" of this American icon to now be owned by an Italian company?
         Political football, indeed.
         Not sure either side of the campaign wants to call attention to that.

            I found it interesting for I remember seeing that commercial and it really moved me to the point that I found myself clapping when it was over (we already know I clapped the heck out of that game seeing the Giants beat the Patriots) Anyway after the game I was talking to a friend that is a huge Republican, and he thought the commercial was horrible and the whole Detroit issue was not something that he was happy about, something about having stock that was now useless.
            
            Now I am not very political and usually do not get into discussions about it,but I do listen to both or at least try to. When I heard the Republicans speeches there was not one thing that I could relate to. And when I heard the Dem's speeches I was moved beyond belief.
            
            Rambling, mumbling and often incoherent Clint Eastwood empty chair speech was an embarrassment  .. yet the man was amazing in this commercial . . . can someone please enlighten me, was Clint just acting in both?

   I always hesitate to jump into political argument but I have to say this: the idea that the Republicans said no and would rather torpedo the country in order to gain power is an incredibly biased and in my view naive statement. Please don't tell me you believe with all your heart that the Democrats sincerely worked with Bush to enact his vision. Is that what you really believe? Or is it that you think the Democrats are really smart people and even though the Republicans know this they just say no anyway? I bet it's the latter but either way please stop saying this... gaining or retaining power in politics requires that your opponent not succeed. Are you not aware of this?

      How can the Republicans/Tea Parties mission be misconstrued they held the country hostage last year over the increase in the debt ceiling lowering the countries debt rating. And Boehner said it best in 2010 after the elections. Our goal is no longer taking care of business in Washington it is making this President a one term President, when the leader of the party feels this way nothing will ever get done. Now back to your comment about the democrats and Bush. Fortunately like every Republican in the past 30 years they have War on their side. They start wars and attach everything they want in an earmark on funding bill for the war and if the Democrats dare disagree the President comes on stage and calls the Democrats unpatriotic for going against the bill. And the Republicans say Obama has Chicago style political tactics.

There is empirical confirmation that the battle to gain more political power has become more intense in recent years. Their research shows that the “median Republican and Democrat has moved toward their respective ideological poles in the contemporary period, but this effect is considerably larger in the House than the Senate and for Republicans more than Democrats.”{1} The data shows how the Republican Party has moved much further right than the Democratic Party has gone left. We have watched the GOP blatantly stymie and discourage diversity by forcing policy pledges on their colleagues and by funding primary challenges to replace those members within their own ranks who dare to suggest compromise. You should take notice, Poet, how elements of the conservative infrastructure, particularly Americans for Prosperity and the Club for Growth, have targeted moderate Republicans like Mike Castle in Delaware, Bob Bennett in Utah, Arlen Specter in Pennsylvania, Lisa Murkowski in Alaska, Olympia Snowe in Maine, and Orrin Hatch in Utah for defeat in Republican primaries.
      
      Evidence of the GOP willingness to torpedo this country in order to gain power is also apparent in the US credit rating debacle in Aug 2011. The same three out of four Republicans in the House that voted to pass the Federal budget in April later pushed the country to the brink of default by refusing to extent the lending cap to fund the budget they approved. In addition, 79 of those 179 “aye” votes were from Republicans endorsed by theTea Party. {2} S&P, I might add, had notified the Treasury Department earlier that this action was being considered due to congressional deadlock but the GOP said in effect, “bring it on.” Their actions were not only directly responsible for the credit rating decline but they also led to international calls for a new global reserve currency to replace the dollar. {3}
      
      Their actions are clear and repeated, Poet. The GOP values power over the best interests of the USA. This viewpoint is neither incredibly biased nor is it naive when you examine the record.
