It would be really cool to add a table of contents to hubs and click through sections. So extremely long hubs would allow someone to click the link in the TOC and take them to that section.

Actually, I have seen someone create a link to a section of a hub before, but it takes a bit of knowledge about the system. I am talking about capsules that are already programmed to to do that.

      Hi, Cardisa

It was Glen who created a Hub showing how to create a TOC if you're interested. Agree with you, however, that it would be a good idea for a module:

Hey Gordon, it was Relache that I saw do it but will definitely check out the hub. I am now working on a hub that may run in the thousands (word count) and I thought it would be great to have the feature.

        Thanks G smile

This has been requested many, many times before. I think its on the 'to do sometime' list. You can do it in html but its a pain - there is is an ancient post about that as well. do a search

It does take a little know-how to do on your own, but it's not too difficult. It really only involves finding an id number in the Hub's source code, and then pasting that id number onto the end of the code for the link.

    1. Find the id for the section
The key to making links that jump to another section of a Hub is to get the id of the section you want to link to. In order to find the id of the capsule, table, etc. that you want to link to, view the source code for the Hub. Find the section and then find the bit of code at the beginning of the section, capsule, table, etc. that looks similar to this: id="mod_16259009"

Copy the mod_16259009 (or whatever the number is) part.

    2. Create the table of contents text for your link

    3. Link the table of contents text to the Hub its on using the little link icon/tool. If you have five links, for example, then link all five to the current Hub.

    4. Click on the HTML button in the capsule

    5. Edit the <a href="cardisa.hubpages.com/category/hub/title-of-hub> piece of code.
Put a # sign on the end and then paste the mod_16259009 that you copied so it looks like this:
    <a href="cardisa.hubpages.com/category/hub/title-of-hub#mod_16259009>

If you have five links, then you will append five different mod_numbers to the end of each link in the code.

    Hope that helps.
    Kristin

Hey Kristin, the truth is I don't have the mind to go learn this now. I guess I'll have to wait until that feeling hits me before I even try this....call it lazy..... tongue

Haha. Well if you do, it's pretty easy. Or feel free to email me when the time comes if you need help. But for HP it's a little more complex than just adding a new capsule since it would require gathering various id's for other capsules that somehow the Hub author would have to indicate.

I'd like to know how to do this. I'm not good at creating html.

I agree that this would be really cool and I'd love to offer it as a feature. Unfortunately it's not a very easy thing for us to implement given the way our HubTool currently works. So I think this would need to wait until after some more ... let's say extensive changes to the HubTool. But definitely know that it's on my list as well. While it's technically possible to do now, way too much of a hassle for most people.

Thanks Derek, I will wait until you decide when to update the hubtool. I just don't have the time or frame of mind to do it the way suggested up top....lol

They have this feature over at Wizzley. I have not used it myself, but what I have seen, it is a very handy tool for readers.

I hope that the idea does find a way to HP.
