   Assailants stripped, bound and tortured a woman accused of witchcraft, then burned her alive in front of hundreds of witnesses in a Papua New Guinea town, police said Friday after one of the highest profile sorcery-related murders in this South Pacific island nation.
   
   Some of the hundreds of bystanders took photographs of Wednesday's brutal slaying. Grisly pictures were published on the front pages of the country's biggest circulating newspapers, The National and Post-Courier.
   
   Kepari Leniata, a 20-year-old mother of one, had been accused of sorcery by relatives of a six-year-old boy who died in the hospital the day before, police spokesman Dominic Kakas said.
   
   She was tortured with a hot iron rod, bound, doused with gasoline, then set alight on a pile of car tires and trash in the Western Highlands provincial capital of Mount Hagen.
   
   This what happens when the Super-ego and it's delusions go unchecked.

            Maybe, but a pragmatic one.
            
            I noticed that you posted something to the effect that religion inhibits progress. Everything waxes and wanes. Religion, at many points in history, allowed progress to happen in the first place.

               Religion want to maintain the status quo. The progress is only when a new one forms and try to distinguish itself from its predecessor, that is turning away from the established one. Atheism is only the end religion.

                  So then, it is your contention that atheism  inhibits progress? I guess you are using the backwards nature of societies currently under atheistic regimes as backup for that?

                           Wow! But I said all religions inhibit progress and I included atheism as a religion.
                           But communism has nothing to do with atheism and only because the economist who started communism also happened to be an atheist because of the oppression by capitalists and religious, we happen to associate the two.

                              You are joking? Please tell me you are joking. Communism and atheism have absolutely no reason to be associated; one with the other. Unfortunately, communistic regimes have tended to be controlled by professed atheists. I would think the fact that these regimes target the religious would make it clear that the atheistic beliefs of the leader do play a major role in policy.
                              
                              And, so you know, the only reason I responded was that your statement was Religion want to maintain the status quo.                               This led me to believe you were saying that atheism either currently prohibits progress; or will at some point in the future.

                                 Yes I wrote what I wrote and I believe atheism too is a form of religion and can inhibit progress. And I said 'true atheism' will not because I don't know the term where everyone question there beliefs with an open mind.
                                 And I also thought you knew communism is economic sociology while atheism has nothing to do with economics.
                                 Just because some prominent communist or majority of communists were atheist doesn't make communism atheism. For them atheism was a means to extent there rule and communism, Just as feudalism was getting its justification from religion.[atheism was tool for the communists like feudalism for the middle age Christians. ]

                                    In case it wasn't clear in my previous reply, I know atheism does not equate to communism. I am fully aware of what communism is. However, if you deny that atheistic leaders have used 'communistic ideals' (I used the term in marks, because that is not indicative of true communism) to enforce their beliefs I still consider you to be in denial.

                                       Did I say atheism is progressive. I said it is the end religion.
                                       I surely wish at least this time you see that I said it as a religion. It is a progression from one religion to the last. And as atheism is relatively new with fewer ideologies (hence it makes mind freer),but we do not know whether it will revert back to religion, different cultures show different trends. But generally people who move away from religion appears to be more developed and progressive while those who move towards are regressive.

                                       There I do not understand you.
                                       The Chinese and Russian communist leaders have used atheists ideas. Atheists as well as religious people are/were attracted to "communists ideals[though however bad the practise of it, theoretically it was good as it preaches the uplift of the downtrodden(jesus preached the same though in a different way) "]. They were communist leaders who tried to enforce their ideals and not atheistic leaders that enforced communism.
                                       Though I searched the net I couldn't get any "atheist leaders" but only prominent political leaders who are atheists, and that include all sides.

                                          You think atheism makes the mind free? People who move away from religion are more developed and progressive? Where do you come up with this? Do you honestly believe any of that, or does it simply make you feel good to say it? Is this along the same lines as your claim that aborigines don't think?
                                          
                                          Societies that safeguard the right to freedom of conscience progress. Progress is brought about by freedom. Show me a totalitarian regime, show me a theocratic society, show me a country attempting to stamp out freedom of thought and I guarantee you we'll both see it as stunted. The claim that atheism is somehow better is a sign of one religion trying to stamp out another.

                  I was thinking along the lines of the Middle East with Islam, during  what is commonly referred to as the Dark Ages in Europe. Although, most scholarly sources are beginning to insist that the name is a poor one..
                  
                  I was also thinking about Europe, when Christianity first began to roll through.
                  
                  You certainly can't say that Christianity did much to help the New World. I'm sure the indigenous races would roll a heavy eye at any such claim.

      You may note, the people who perpetrated this act were not atheists.   Christianity and Islam are not the only religions in the world!
      
      These people had their own traditional religion.  No atheists there.

      A fine sight to witness...Stupidity first-hand!!!  This is a sorting process...We must See Stupidity to opt Change...We must See the ridiculous to embrace the blasphemous...Obviously.
      
      idk, Kids...Seems to me that to argue one's 'faith' simply proves that one does not 'Know'...Beliefs change on a breeze, Knowing understands this.
      
      Humanity is still in primitive states...having faith & beliefs of grand variety, but still unknowing of their Selfs.  Life cares little for such things...It will play along regardless...It's process quite perfect in doing so.

      I recall the story of a husband who had his wife incarcerated in a mental institute because he wanted her fortune. Witchcraft is common in these countries, haiti too as well as voodoo and i imagine either can be a convenient avenue to obtain ones goals, whatever they might be.
      I don't put a lot of emphasis on "This what happens when the Super-ego and it's delusions go unchecked." just because something is said to be something, even the newspapers can unwittingly propagate deception.

   This is a topic of some interest to me - there are good reasons why Atheists often argue with the faithful. Sometimes it is because they are frustrated with what seems to them an irrational and nonsensical world-view. Other times (if they once had faith themselves) it can be due to bitterness over the 'lies' spread by religious leaders. Also, they point to the numerous conflicts in the world and decry the negative influence of religion on the jihadists and crusaders of the world. There is also the anger against proselitizers who try and thrust their beliefs upon everyone in an effort to 'save' them. There are lots of good reasons for them to argue. I wrote a hub on this subject not long ago titled: Why do Atheists argue with the faithful? in which I covered this ground in a bit more detailed. I've also considered the problem of religion being blamed for conflict and war... check them out if you fancy it. I'm always up for an open minded debate in this area. Peace
