Pelosi doesn't want a pay cut

   "House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is speaking out against a cut in congressional pay because she says it will undermine the dignity of their positions. "I think we should respect the work we do," Pelosi said. "I think it's necessary for us to have the dignity of the job that we have rewarded."

   Hmmm.  It's been years since congress provided a budget on time as their job requires.  It's been decades since congress exerted any real control over our southern border as their job requires.  Congress passed the most expensive, sweeping legislation ever proposed without ever reading it - not something their job would seem to encourage.  Pork spending is and has been totally out of control - another action their job should not tolerate. 
   
   Now they've gone on recess but don't want their  $174,000 salary cut with everyone else's because they didn't do their job.  It's beneath their "dignity" to take the same pay cut their failure to perform will force on others; we should "respect" the job they (didn't) do and pay them in spite of continual failure.
   
   Does anyone think they deserve respect for (not) doing their job?  Can there be any dignity in drawing a paycheck for continual failure?  What dignity is there in not doing the job you're being paid for?  Can that woman possibly be demanding respect because congress squabbles like children instead of doing the job they are paid to do?
   
   This just struck me as really, really wrong somehow.

      What can anyone say except unfreakin believable. Then again, do you expect her to say anything else. This from the only speaker of the house that had to have their own plane.
      
      I guess waiters, waitresses, carpenters, auto mechanics, secretaries, and all jobs that make less than $175,000 per year, according to Pelosi thought process, we are all undignified.   
      
      I cannot wait to see people stick up for her on this one, Oh wait, she misspoke.

         Seems you're right.  I'm an electrician, but took a 20% pay cut a couple of years ago to help keep the company afloat.  I should therefore have no dignity in building the schools, stores, churches and other buildings that we completed successfully, fulfilling our contract.
         
         *sigh*  Guess I just don't understand the political mind.  If there actually is a mind inside that head at all.

            Interesting.  Certainly there are doing a 'job,' but they're supposed to be providing a public service.  I'd like to see any service provider get away with what Congress has and even expect to keep their job, let alone an unreasonably inflated salary.

               If my cable company, phone company, etc. did as poorly they wouldn't have my business for more than a few days.

      What part of slime does the dignity card play in this? Is dignity the slippery slime or is it the stinky slime. With Americas approval rating of Congress at an all time low, this only goes to show how aloof and out of touch they really are. They all must really go.
      
      Term limits, publicly financed campaigns and lobby reform is our only hope of achieving self rule.

         +1  When she reached into her purse to find that dignity card she must have taken a moment to wash it thoroughly first.  Certainly, it's been sitting on the bottom of the purse far too long without ever being examined.
         
         I'd agree with all three of your suggestions but it will be a tough fight.  When a congressman brings home the pork every year voters like that very much and to heck with the people actually footing the bill for their goodies.  They want that congressman back at any cost (as long as somebody else pays that cost!)

            I agree with your observation of the constituencies acquiescence to their complicity in getting all the goodies shows how unpatriotic the whole thing has become. The problem is that kicking the can down the road is coming to a dead end and the road is getting narrower. The sacrifice coming from somebody else has more of a pleasant tone than making it ourselves.
            
            But honestly the slimebags continue as long as we let them and the money is too good for them to stop.
            
            My father always said "We have the best government money can buy".

      Minimum wage?  I wouldn't give then anything until they do the job!  Let their pay depend on performance rather than how many breaks they can squeeze into a year or much money they can waste.

   I so can't stand her; both as to her competence and her ethics.
   
   But what really, really, really, scares me... Is that half of the House of Representatives elected her as their leader. I'm not kidding. What that action says about them is truly frightening.
