Email from Hubpages - "Your Hub Could be Featured!"

   I just got an email from Hubpages about the hub I published today:
   
   "We wanted to let you know that Garlic-Lemon Hummus Recipe has the opportunity to become Featured! Featured Hubs are showcased on Topic Pages and Related Hubs listings. They are also made available to search engines. We want your Hub to succeed and strongly recommend dusting it off and making a few improvements so that it meets our quality standards."
   
   Thing is, that hub is ALREADY showing as featured. In fact, all the hubs I've published have been featured.
   So now I'm confused. Are they saying it has quality problems, even though it is featured? Do I need to revise it, or something?

         Today I had the opposite problem.  My hubs normally are all featured quickly.  I wrote one earlier today for July 4 that was a very emotional appeal to all Americans to pitch in to create a better America.  It came back as not featured due to quality!  I was shocked because it was a beautiful piece of writing meant to inspire, and instead, HP trampled all over it.  There were no grammatical or structural errors, it was long enough and had the required number of photos and a great supportive video.  Yet, here it sits...missing all of those Google views that would undoubtedly come today.  It has 20 HP views already in the first few hours...but may never see anything more.  I did revisit the hub and add some stats, but I just don't get this one!

            I took a quick look at your Hub and it has a few things that can bring a hub closer to the border.  You might want to look at your number formatting.  There are spaces between some of them that prevents it from scoring as high as it could for mechanics.  There is also some other small things like several short paragraphs, punctuation in the title that may be bringing the score down a bit.  It looks like it's featured now.  Hope that is helpful to know why it was close to the border.

   Actually, it's telling you that it didn't pass the quality process. I know because I received the same email yesterday. When I checked my stats to check on my hub's status, it showed that it was NOT featured due to quality issues. So I would just go back and just do a little tweaking here and there and you should get it back to featured status in no time!

   But when I look in my hubs list, it has a "Featured" icon beside it. It's very odd.

   Ads are on it, so it is featured. Does it show the feature symbol on stats page?  Congrats

      Yes, it has the featured symbol in the stats page. So I'm scratching my head over the email. I'm kind of afraid they'll decide to un-feature it, or something, now!

   I would still go in and do a little editing. Make sure it is great instead of good so that they won't decide to unfeature it. They may have been telling you that if you don't do something, they will unfeature it soon or they may have sent the mail on accident. Or they may have sent it then changed their mind.

   One small tip.  The hummus hub is is featured and you did a really nice job with the photos.  We've seen this style do well.  We are working on identifying really great hubs and this could have been rated higher by only placing products (ebay) right next to where you discuss the product or leaving them out if they are tangentially related. 
   
   Sorry for the confusion...have to learn what's going on with the bug.

   Featured means very little at all. I have quite a few "featured" hubs, but that does not really "increase" my traffic. Don't get too excited...not that big of a deal...the only thing that will boost your traffic is if they put it as a REAL FEATURED HUB on their display of their hubs on their log in page. Other than that...its kind of worthless

      Sorry, but this is not true.  When a hub is not featured, it does not get indexed on Google and therefore is unable to garner views and income.  Hubbers can see it, of course, but that does not create income because hubbers cannot click on ads.  So featured status means more than you think it does.

         Sorry, but this is not true. When a hub is featured, even if you get a high amount of traffic, the income generated is pennies at best. If your hub is featured it really means very little at all except that you can make pennies a day. Featured hubs mean a LOT LESS than you think they do!

            All this tells me, personally, is that your hubs are not performing well.
            
            For those whose hubs are performing well, or who are pursuing this goal, getting featured is important.

   I have over 50 hubs featured. Last month I barely made payout ($52) after having accumulated pennies for six months.

    It sounds to me like Hubpages are having a few technical issues. Traffic is down, and sometimes that happens during the summer. I have noticed that my hubs which I spend time on promoting myself do better. There seem to be a lot of discussion going on all over the internet at the moment about the future of writing sites, or content mills. I have found that my own web site are doing quite well with Adsense earnings. Linking hubs into Google plus works really, and it is shame we do not have a Google Plus button. Surely if we earn more- Hubpages earns more as well.

       Healthyannie, I agree with you that doing an extra bit for hubs from our side helps a lot in getting hubs score well. HP seems to be going through a renovation phase, that's why we are witnessing such gross changes in both hub scores and author score. Hope things stabilise after some time!

    I've been reading about writers no longer depending on Google traffic at all, because it is so unreliable. They are working at getting traffic from elsewhere. I wonder how successful that is and how many are doing it.
