This may not belong here but I'm getting ready to write an article on this particular thing and the lascivity of law enforcement/state law when it comes to death threats.
I certainly would like input on the subject that I may include in my article.
Recently we(husband and I) were threatened. Not lame(I'm gonna get you) threats but I'm going to put a bullet in your head and blow your house up with dynamite, chop limbs off, etc. THey threatened me(I'm travelling out of state so wasn't as concerned about my safety), hubby, a friend(and his family) and my tenant(house). I was shocked to learn that my state(nc) views threats as no big deal and based on state law can't do anything. NC state law requires you to file a warrant in a magistrates office which is impossible being out of state. The police told me they can't even talk to the ppl(they could be charged with trespassing). My husband was unable to get a warrant(in NC if it isn't an ex spouse/partner you're out of luck). I was shocked and stunned and just one more reason for me to hate this sorry state....UNfortunately, if you can't identify the person threatening you, you're really out of luck...
Has anyone had similar experiences? Do you know your state laws regarding this type of situation. Unfortunately, the only solution is to arm oneself. What's more NC is considering removing the stand your ground law(which has come under fire after the Trayvon Martin case and now the McBride case in Detroit Michigan) but considering this state has laws that prevent police from doing anything in case of death threats I would have to question this. The police explained that should these ppl show up my husband could legally shoot first and ask questions later....Maybe if police had more leeway in threat cases there wouldn't be the need for stand your ground...JUst my opinion...What are your thoughts?
From your description it would appear that someone is more than a bit pissed off at you...shoot them first...
Yeah, I was threatened continuously by a FB stalker. As far as I knew he lived in Canada, but one of his emails traced back to CA. I'm not sure now how I figured that out.
I am hoping he is long gone. Sometimes threats are something scary ppl do when they're bored. I could tell you some stories... ugh. Nothing came of it. One little spooky thing though. There is someone who has been contacting me here on HP's who has the same first name. That is a little scary, but I'm hoping it's just a co-incidence.
Usually, folks aren't threatened for no reason. Why do you think you are being threatened by this individual? What have you done to this person to warrant such threats? It would appear they are known to you.
That's an odd thing to say. Usually women are raped cause they are women. People are robed cause they had money and children are beaten cause they are too small to put up a fight. What does that have to do with anything?
I was not asking you, so please butt out.
Then Ill let the OP ask you that question, b/c it is not only a fair one, it is an apt one.
Or, you should probably think about what you write before you actually write it.
Most rapists are known to their victims, hence my question.
Robberies are not the same thing as making threats to people, again, the reason why I asked the question.
Do you understand now why your question is not an apt one?
Maybe you have missed the point? Are you blaming the victim for the harasser's actions? If they do know the person who is casting these threats, does it nullify their right to feel threatened? I don't believe they stated whether or not they had had any altercations with the person. Can you imagine a reasonable situation that allows for that person to threaten their life?
No, I didn't.
Did I say that anywhere? No, I didn't, those are your words.
Of course not, but it could make a lot of difference as to why they are being threatened by this individual. We simply don't have the full story here.
Exactly, which is why I asked the question.
We simply don't know, but it makes no sense that a random stranger suddenly starts threaten unknown people for no reason at all.
Again, we need to hear the full story.
Did they say it was a random stranger? Personally, I assumed they knew the person, I still can't imagine what that has to do with the fact that they've been physically threatened.
Uh, that's what I'm trying to find out. Duh.
Of course, you can't. However, others are able to think beyond that.
Ill get out of your way since you're at the "duh" point.
Im sure the OP will have her own comments for you.
If I were you I would hire to an attorney to find out exactly what the law is and what you legally can and cannot do, and what the person making the threats can and cannot legally do.
Police officers have been known to give bad legal advice.

Smartandfun: I did contact an atty abt the threats and was told I do have to file charges in the magistrates office where they live.
Troubled: I didn't post the whole story with it being HP.
The woman making the threats I do not know personally. I believe she is a friend of my ex tenants. She has also sent threatening emails and makes it clear she isn't scared of cops. The death threats started when they were served with papers to go to civil court. The harassment and threats to my husband started b4 they moved out of my rental home because I served them an eviction notice because they wouldn't pay rent. When they moved out, they stole furniture, appliances, broke windows, doors, mngd to break the toilet, sinks, wrote vile msgs all over the walls in most every room, trashed the house, threw old food, etc. all over the house, poured something sticky all over the kitchen floor so anyone who stepped in it would fall down, the list goes on....I told them in no uncertain terms I would take every legal remedy available to me to get the furniture, etc. back and restitution for the damages(the damages far exceeded their security deposit)....
My ex tenants believe(and rightly so) that if they employ someone else to make the threats they can't be charged. This is unfortunate under NC law. And honestly speaking, if I knew where this psycho lived(can't get charges wo that info) I'd be afraid to file the charges. She not only threatened our lives(and my new tenant, our friend and his family, he was the landscaper at the rental house) but threatened to do harm to our pets as well.
Clearly these ppl were crackpots. Crackpots that go to church and call themselves christians.....That's a whole article in itself....

I don't think Trump cares about anything except protecting his image as he wants it perceived by the world. If he perceives it is being threatened, he will pull out the counter punches and attack anything or anybody that is threatening his image. He will even lie about his lies to protect himself....

I wonder what you would do if someone in a class you were teaching threatened with "I'll PUNCH your face in!" This has just happened to one of my colleagues. I'd be very interested in your opinions.

Obama has used the Espionage Act, passed under Woodrow Wilson to shut down media opposition WWI, 6 times in 3 years, whilst it had been used 3 times since 1917, to target or shut down journalists that Obama targeted. In Syria journalists were killed and Obama praised their tough journalistic style,...
