How many amazon links are allowed in the hub?

Thanks Marisa for your time, So it means I can have an Amazon link in every text module per 50 words?

  2. LindaSmith1 profile image60

Marisa:   I thought it was 50 words in text capsule per Amazon Capsule.

But only 2 text links for Amazon is allowed.

Since HP allows only 2 links per one domain (to the same domain), with Amazon when using your own amazon-20 ID would be only two links to Amazon. If you do not have Google Ads you are not earning from Amazon through HP . If you have GoogleAds  than you can use Amazon links as 1 link per 50 words with Amazon capsule ( this is the active HP earning program). At least this is how I understand it.

You've got it.  One thing to note, however, even using the HP Amazon Ad Program, the Amazon products used must totally relate to the topic of your Hub and your Hub must provide useful information to the visitor, not just try to sell them products.  Otherwise, it will be flagged as "overly promotional."

I understood it this way too. And, Doesn't the product have to be orientated to the subject matter as well?

This should be, because people who came to your hub are evidently reading it because they are interested in your topic.

Could someone clear up a question about Amazon links and Amazon capsules for me? I do not have an AdSense account, nor do I have, at present, an Amazon affiliate account.

I still use the Amazon capsules, and already have my PayPal account linked to HP. Does not having an AdSense account, OR an Amazon affiliate account mean that my options for earning any income from my few hubs are - non-existant?

Shades-of-Truth, If you have your own Amazon account, you can use it. You can only show 2 Amazon products though per hub.

Best of luck in getting a Google Adsense account.

Thank you, Barbara Kay. I think I understood that, but as I stated, I have neither AdSense right now, nor do I have an Amazon affiliate account. On Squidoo, simply using the Amazon product ID was sufficient.

I wanted to know if there is no earning capabilityat all, if all that I am doing is using the product ID in the Amazon capsule.

Perhaps I am not expressing myself very well. Everyone else seems to understand the relation to Amazon and earnings, but I am stuck in "how easy it was on Squidoo", I think.

There are no ways of earning on Squidoo if you do not sign-up for and quality for all the various earnings programs.  If you are just putting product IDs into Amazon capsules, and have not signed up for the affiliate program, them HubPages will just get anything your Hubs ever earn.

On Squidoo, the site handled everything, period. Here, you must qualify for the actual programs on your own writing merit and then they'll administrate everything for you.

If you are confirmed into Hubpages own Amazon program all you have to do is use the Amazon modules provided.

If you use HP Amazon program, after Adsense is approved. HP gives you Amazon ID.

But, if you opt to use your own Amazon Associates program, you sign up with Amazon, and enter your ID, then you can use the capsules for your  own Amazon Affiliate Account.

If you use HP Amazon program, and also have your own Amazon affiliate account,  the capsule then will be for HP program, and you will  have to use text links for your own Amazon Associate account and be limited to 2 text links to same domain which is Amazon.

Here is how to sign up for personal Amazon Associate account.

      Once again, thank you.

Linda, I understand about the Amazon affiliate link, as I had an account with them, years ago. I eventually deleted it. I may get another one.

psycheskinner, I am still trying to figure out, if using the Amazon capsules with the linked ISBN #'s is sufficient, since my PayPal account is linked here already.

I am under the impression, that in order to be confirmed into the HP Amazon program, one has to have an AdSense account.

Usually, I am a quick-study, but I don't seem to be on this subject...sorry, everyone.

      Also, I think I am "off-topic", too.

Yes, to use HP Amazon Program, Ebay program, HP earnings program you need Adsense.

Thank you, Linda. So....it appears that simply having the links in my capsules, as I did on Squidoo in my modules, will accomplish nothing. Hm....

  7. LindaSmith1 profile image60

If I remember correctly, we did not need adsense or even an Amazon account which was good for those in states Amazon banned.  All we did was use ASIN or ISBN number.

Here, you can do one program or both personal and HP Amazon program, but HP program requires Adsense.  HP Amazon will take up use of capsules.

If you open another Associates account, you can use Amazon capsule if you are not with HP program as well, otherwise you are limited to 2 text links for Amazon.

Thank you, Linda! Well, I just did, and entered it here at HubPages on my account. Now, I will simply have to figure out, again, how to use it. I haven't done that, in years.

I do not understand your statment (LindaSmith):"if you open another account with Amazon, you can use Amazon capsule without the Hubpages earning program. How does that work? Where actually you will enter the amason ID-20 code?

I've noticed that some policies change over time.  My best guess is that some people abuse it, so it ruins it for the rest of us.

Thank you, all. I have read and read, and finally had the question answered in "laymen's terms" by one who knows who is active on HP. She gave me a clear, concise understanding of what was confusing me.

    Here is what she said:

"If you activate your Amazon code on HP (in the external settings section, not the HP earnings settings), the capsules will show your code 60% of the time and HP's 40% of the time. So yes, you will earn from them.

You will only ever put the AISN/ISBN number into the capsule. The affiliate tags will be added by HP automatically.

The codes in the capsules don't count toward the two-link limit. Any links you do with your own Amazon code that are included in text or as the source URL for a photo will, however.

Adsense is required to participate in the HP earnings program, but not to use your external codes."

Perhaps others understood it all before, but it did not "click" for me, until she posted that.

Thank you all, again, including the gal who graciously allowed me to quote her comment.

You are not alone to be confused with the Amazon do's and don't for Hubpages. The confusing part is, that you can earn from 2 Amazon accounts at the same time, but you have to have 2 accounts with Amazon. One, which is through HP earning program will be complete and active if you have Adsense account, which as I understand is sometimes difficult to get. The external Amazon account will be set by you and it will be showing in your Amazon associate program.

I can well imagine that I am not alone in my confusion. The way is it "laid out" in the Earnings Settings section is a bit difficult to understand. How lovely it would be, if it was stated - "Those who do not have an AdSense account can still earn from Amazon Capsules. Simply sign up for the Amazon Associates Account, or use your existing one, and enter your Associates ID here".

Had I seen that option, I would not have been infringing on everyone's time, asking for clarification. Since I am an "import" from Squidoo, and a recent one, too, I feel a bit reluctant to offer any advice to anyone on HubPages, however, the simplified sentences that I typed above in quotes would have answered my question.

        Thank you, greg2biz2!

After reviewing all of the questions new people have asked, perhaps someone on staff will see many things which need to be added to the Learning Center.

Until then, you can often find what you need by searching on Google:
site:http://hubpages.com/forum skip one space and type your question here.

Good advice, Writer Fox! That is actually how I found answers to a lot of the other questions I had, before I even started editing the Lenses that came over from Squidoo.
