I just donated $5 to the Wikimedia Foundation. Wikimedia Foundation overseas one of my favorite websites Wikipedia.org.

Wikipedia.org is a collaborate foundation that offers free educational material. The time that Wikipedia saves me, the enjoyment I receive from Wikipedia is worth far more than my $5. I pay 10 times that amount each month for a television that I don't watch or enjoy as much.

Free knowledge is very important to me. I was blessed to have a college education but it did not come easily. I paid 100% and without scholarships and grants I would not have been able to have attended. The world needs this information. Wikpedia was laughed at and scoffed when it first launched. It was banned by universities and still is often derided and yet Wikipedia.org ranks on Alexa as number 6!

What websites do you support monetarily? And why?

I think that's great. Despite the criticism that Wiki receives, it's still a great place to start a knowledge search. I don't use it as a source, but it can put you on the right path.  Just read carefully.  I have been remiss in not donating.  Thx for the reminder.

Yes, you are absolutely correct, like all things on the web, check it very carefully. I use it as a fun item or a starting point for deeper research. Like HubPages, I like and appreciate the volume of material available.

I used to have a lot of respect for Wikipedia and often use them as a photo source. Lately I have been very disappointed in them re the amount of porn that is showing up on Wikimedia Commons. Complaints seem to fall on deaf ears so if that is their direction I am not impressed. There is no need for the crap they are now accepting on their site. They lost me as a loyal supporter.
