I have kept a very low profile on Hubpages since my return as a result of Squidoo. About eight hours ago, I asked for some assistance with a hub. Within an hour, I had hate speech on my hub. I'm going to quote:
"Sophia-Angélique, your writing is as stilted and pretentious as ever. Dispatch the faux-aristocratic affect, tired old trope that it is. You're no high-born lady, and not much of a middle-brow lady either if you think imitating the style of an early 20th century butler imparts an air of worldliness upon these mundane hubs. Also, do review the proper use of which versus what."
The person also obviously signed up specifically to do it, thereby demonstrating a resistance to taking responsibility for their actions. Also thereby knowing that they knew it was morally, ethically, and probably legally wrong.

I haven't approved it (rather taken a snapshot of it and sent it to management). Obviously as soon as management have confirmed its existence, I will delete it. If there is one thing I learnt on Google Plus over the last four years, it is to be ruthless when it comes to hate speech. I delete it and block people. I also report the to Google. Hubpages, however, does not give one the ability to block.
I would appreciate your input as to how one deals with hate speech, trolling, personal attack, and malice on hubpages.
Hi Tess,
Our moderators will respond to your email as soon as they get a chance today, but as other have mentioned, unfortunately there are plenty of not-so-nice people out there on the internet who just want to get a reaction out of you. The best course is to make sure you don't approve any of the offending comments and to ignore the troll completely. If they find they can't cause any drama with you, they usually look for an easier target pretty quickly.
Screenshot and report it, don't approve it but don't delete it until you hear back from hubpages. Trolling and personal attacks should be ignored by you (other than reporting). There is a rule "Don't feed the trolls." They like to fight on the internet, giving them nothing to respond to will eventually make them leave you alone and move on.
Okay, thanks. I did exactly that. I've left it, haven't deleted it, took a screen shot and sent it to management. Thank you for confirming.
Just another frustrated harmless moron as there are millions of. Handle it like pumpkincat210 advices.
You've just made me laugh:) Thank you.
Very high minded. For me, that is too much time and trouble. Not worth the energy. I like just to be able to take a snap shot and send to management. No worth dignifying with a reply, don't you think?
Ignore it. Basically it's a jealousy thing I think. People who can not write, but want to become jealous of the people who can and do and then the misery loves company rule comes into play. They are basically miserable individuals who will never find success and if they can waste your energy negativly they dont feel so alone. Ignore the jerks, leave them to drown in their own misery and don't join em
Starme77, that is not something that occurred to me. Good point.
The more attention you give a troll the happier they are.
Put comments on moderation and never post abusive ones. The troll will get bored and looking for a more amusing target.
If the poster has a Hubpages account, report them.
The poster had just created a hubpage account for the sole purpose of writing it. It's also quite clearly a hubber because the only time I ever used the other name was when I was here previously.
What do you mean to put comments on moderation? I haven't okayed it. As mentioned in the OP, I took a snapshot of it and reported it to management. Just waiting for them to confirm that it is real, and then will delete it. I have no intention of replying to the person. Not worth the effort.
I guess the reason that I posted it on this forum is I wanted input from others as to how to handle this in case there was anymore of that type of things.
Thank you everybody. Hubpages have notified me that the person has had his/her account banned and was, in fact, trolling others as well. I'm happy. So that will be my methodology in future - just notify hubpages with a snapshot and a link.
glad to know that reporting such angry people takes care of it. Writers need to treat each other with kindness, not like this.

I have been coming across a lot of hate speech on HubPages, both in Hubs and in the forums. Stuff that I would not even dare repeat. While it is good to know who the bigots are on HubPages, we need to flag them immediately. Yes, it is not going to change their views, but that's not the point. The...

Today we are seeing a movement toward tolerance or at least what we think as tolerance. Bulling has become a hot button issue in the public (as if it didn’t happen anytime before) with many different groups against it. But does the speech version of bullying have any constitutional protection? You...

Trump aspires to turn the United States into a Soviet-style autocracy with him playing Putin's role here in the states. He already tried to corrupt our elections in 2020 and weave a false narrative that he won when he actually lost. It's evident to many Americans and why he will...

Now there is Islamophobia, so wondering especially in light of all the hatred for Christians and ridicule of Christians, including here on HubPages, if there should be a new "phobic" called Christianphobic? Of course, then the "hate speech" rule would have to apply to this...

Where do we draw the line between free speech and hate speech for text we print on Facebook?

Facebook is a publisher. Like a newspaper or magazine. Newspapers and magazines do and can not publish everything they want as they have to abide by the law. And so can be held accountable if they are promoting hatred towards groups of people, defamation of a person or spreading outright lies like...
