   I'll respond with a ditto.  I like HubPages because it's an easy way to get my stuff out there AND bonus...I get paid.  I think it's the bees knees.  I also like the "newspaper" feel layout vs. all the crowded layout I see on webpages these days.  I'm an old fashioned newspaper reporter, and I like a good, clean layout with "air."  Also - I like that it's pretty easy to use.  And I like that the people who run it are actively involved in attempting to increase traffic.  I find far more upsides than downsides to HubPages (and the niche sites too).

      I used 'ditto' because it is brief, to the point, and it worked for Patrick Swayse. I too, worked for 23 (or more) years for our local paper and I did some feature writing as well as my own column. Plus selling display ads, darkroom work (when they used it), delivered papers and anything that was needed. I Love HubPages for the same reason you do, agilitymach. It's clean, I get paid and it is a great vehicle for my abstract/prose poems and abstract comedy.

   I wish there were more intellectual and scholarly topics written about on Hub Pages. Some of my colleagues have wondered why a professional researcher would use a site that mostly markets pop culture articles. I haven't found any other web formats for layout I like so much. Tried a university site but there was little marketing value there.

      Claudine, many of those topics are well represented here on HP. Several of my hubs, and I know of hubs of others, have been cited in books and articles. Those citations treat our hubs as serious sources. I've seen nothing that indicates HP is generally regarded as a lightweight site.

   I like the layout, the ease of use, and that HP provided a vehicle to publish my writing online. The supportive community however was and is the most appealing part.

   There are some seriously scholarly authors here. Look for Alicia C. - she's as impressive as they come. James Kenny does some great work, and there are many many others.
   
   Please be as scholarly as you can. Please flag those horrible low quality spam looking or blog post looking things, and improve the level of content on the site in that way.
