Disable Ability to Copy and Paste Hubs

   So .... I was just flagged for a hub I wrote last night.  It was flagged as a duplicate.
   
   I didn't even cite anything in this hub.  I quoted a bunch of stuff in my Anaconda piece and none of it was flagged as duplicate, so someone must have copied and pasted my new hub.  Everything on the new hub was made up as I typed it.
   
   I already put in a request to HubPages to check it out ... but when I was whining about it to my daughter this morning, she asked if HubPages makes it so people can't copy and paste text.  I know eBay does this now (which is annoying because even though I see the myriad of advantages to them doing this, I was trying to copy text from my own auction lol), so can HubPages start doing this, too?
   
   Obviously, we should still be able to go into "edit" mode and then copy/paste, but could Hubpages make it impossible for other people to copy and paste our hubs??  I don't know how difficult this addition would be, but since we won't be published if someone comes in and steals our stuff (per Hubpages/Google policy), I would like to get paid for MY original work.
   
   Thoughts?

   Many have asked for this feature a few times already and the reason it will not be implemented is:
   
   - Most people who copy just scrape the entire site in which case they scrap the code of the site, which of course cannot be hidden from people.

         Copy the entire code of the page which includes the text. They kind of make duplicate sites.

         Make what okay again? Your hub? If it's new and original and you wrote to the team, they will go ahead and publish it as long as it meets other quality requirements.

               Because nothing can be done about it as I stated in an earlier message. Also Relache has left a comment, so this issue seems irrelevant right now

   You can copy and paste a small amount into google with " on each side. If it is located anywhere else it will show up in your search results.
   This may at least help you find where someone may have copied it to.

      I did that earlier without the quotes, but even adding the quotes, nothing comes up.

   I just looked at the Hub in question, and it appears to me to have huge, multiple-paragraph chunks of quoted text in the body.  I believe you have too high a percentage of non-original text in that Hub, and it tripped the filter.

      No, wrong hub.  The Anaconda hub, which has a lot of quotes, is okay.

   If the Hub is flagged as duplicate, that means it appeared somewhere else on the internet BEFORE you wrote it here.  Are you sure you didn't put something very similar on a blog or another site somewhere before? 
   
   Stopping people from copying and pasting wouldn't help prevent the kind of theft that happens on HubPages. Most of the people who steal Hubs are "scrapers" - i.e. they use special software to copy Hubs as soon as they're published, and it wouldn't stop them. 
   
   HubPages is a huge target for scrapers because there aren't many big sites left that publish lots of articles every day on a wide range of different subjects.

   What Relache said. You have huge chunks of texts copied from other sources. Yes, you've attributed it, but that doesn't change the fact it's duplicate.
   
   An example of one of the chunks:
   
   "This conference follows a law suit filed in December 1978 by 92 Navajos and one Acoma Indian in an effort to halt uranium production indefinitely. These two groups represent contingents of growing Indian resistance to government and corporate exploitation of Indian land, resources and people ... Environmental impact statements are required by the National Environmental Policy Act for all federal actions which significantly affect the environment. The plaintiffs contend that since 1970, many of these actions have been approved without the EIS's. The Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA) has approved 303 Indian uranium leases, and the U.S. Geological Service okayed nine mining and reclamation plans. Both of these agencies fall under the Department of the Interior."
   
   To avoid the duplicate warning, you need to either rewrite more of the quotes in your own words, or add more of your own thoughts.
   
   I can't remember the exact figure but I'd say you should try and have less than 10% non-original (or quote) content.

      As for having hubs copied and pasted - ANYTHING you put on the Internet is likely to be stolen (images, videos, text). You can pursue them to have it taken down, but if you have something popular, it can be a time consuming process that's not worth it in the end.
      
      Some of my hubs have been copied hundreds of times; luckily I still rank top of Google for those topics, so I don't bother demanding they take down the copies.

   I can share it on my Facebook page, but it's saying it's a duplicate.  And I've had accounts online forever, I know people are probably gonna steal some of my stuff (people take my photos all the time).  I'm just amazed that it was flagged as a duplicate before it was even published.
   
   Not only that, but I did a search on it and nothing comes up.  So where exactly it's even a duplicate, I have no idea.

      It has absolutely no quotes whatsoever and I've never posted anything remotely like it anywhere else.
      
      And it's been over 24 hours since it was flagged as a duplicate, and I wrote Hubpages and it's still being flagged as a duplicate.
      
      If it's going to remain a duplicate here, I'm going to move it to my other blog .... would like some kind of feedback from Hubpages but all I hear is crickets.

         Sorry about the confusion Brynn. The best thing to do is wait to hear from Hubpages; sounds like it was probably an error. It can take several days to hear back from the Hubpages Team as they get a huge influx of emails.
