   I seem to write my ditties in a complete spur of the moment way?...should I put more thought in?
   
   I kind of write really spur of the moment, I often think its the best way for me but I wonder that this is the best way? should I put more time and thought in?....I adore humerous poetry and often come up with it whilst suffering from yet another bout of insomnia.... would anyone mind giving me a bit of advice?? perhaps have read of my bits and please do tell me if it is a case of" you open your mouth and let stomach rumble"| because I really would like to improve and grow...(well not in size haha)

   My best poetry is written in the spur of the moment. When I sit and try to create something and spend time thinking about it, it's mostly rubbish! Whatever works for you is fine. Poetry and music come from the heart, there aren't rules and ways to go about writing it. Just do whatever gives you the most pleasure and best results.

   When I write poetry, the best ones are spur of the moment. A lot of times after I have scribbled down my thoughts completely, I will go over it and edit for content, rythym, rhyme, etc. It depends on the poem, the style I am going for and the mood it represents. With poetry, the biggest thing is to have fun, and enjoy it!

   I find that I get most of my stuff like that - I have got into the habit of writing it all down even broken lines, the occasional phrase or whatever and then put it all togetherlater. Then I stew it for as long as possible, then I write it, leave it, later still correct it, move it around until I find myself moving things back and then I stop.

   dotty1 - Your earlier respondents said it all very well.  I put a word down and it all goes on from that. If your humor is not "subconscious" it is unlikely to be humorous. Check out some of the stuff in my "Dumb Poem" series, but, from what you described, you are already doing things the way you should be doing them.

   If thats your way what do we have to say? Spontaneity helps to get the flow pure and from a place that is really creative.
   when the feeling takes you go with the flow.
