I love to oil painting, but I have been more into sketching and colored pencils these days.  I am planning to start a new oil painting soon.

Hello SweetiePie.  I am assuming you are the Sweetiepie that posted this site on Craigslist.  Anyhow, just signed up and thanks for the suggestion.  I use mostly oils and outside commercial paints as I make outside yard ornaments and personalized signs, both painted and hand routed.  Hope to get more involved as time permits, thanks again.

Everytime I try to put color onto my sketches, they just get destroyed. So, I wouldn't try to do that again. I should be satisfied with my sketches. cool

      Hi Monique,
Have you run across any really good courses that don't cost an arm and a leg?

Colors are really cool. but most times i can't color if it means to save my life. that's why i stick to sketching. but often, i try to experiment with colors, digitally.

Water color pencils are fun because they mimic the look of water painting, but with the ease of using the colored pencils.

I love this medium too!  It's great to exercise the control that comes with sketching, and then create different effects and textures with a wet brush.

I learned my best color lesson in a figure-painting class 8 years ago: use complementary colors to create the effect of light and shadow.

I draw in colored pencil, and do etchings, aquatints and mezzotints with LOTS of color. I really love the rich colors you can get from colored pencil.
I am also new here, but I did manage to publish my first hub this evening. It is about printmaking. If anyone would like to take a look, I would love some feedback:

I used to like painting and drawing on paper a lot.  Now I still like all that, but not as much as... digital art!  I can draw using the mouse as fast as using my hand.

Wow - I appreciate your compliment, Sweetiepie, but can't claim an iota of credit! The painting is actually by Odilon Redon, one of my favorite artists. I love his style...maybe someday I'll be able to paint like that. smile

I like using oil paint since it gives me the power to control the effects I want to depict in my artwork.  With oil paint I can easily "cover" errors I eventually make when I paint haphazardly.  Oil paintings last better than those in other media as proven by the works done by the great masters during the Renaissance era.

The downside with oil painting is that the materials expel harmful fumes which, to my dismay, gave me a lot of respiratory problems.  However, with or without that "downside", I still prefer oil paints over water-based ones. big_smile

I am using natural based oil paints, which have almost no fumes at all.  For cleaning my brushes I am using the master's brush cleaner and preserver, which only costs seven dollars at crafting stores and is all natural.  Honestly I am glad I discovered it because I used to gag when I had to use terpentine to clean my brushes, but now I no longer have to use strong smelling cleaners and thinners.   I do not thin the oil paint as I prefer it the natural way, so now I am no longer having problems with the paint fumes.

I started oil painting in CT in 2006, and have picked it up again living now in NC.  when I started the whole world came alive.   I saw things I had never paid attention to. Cleaning my brushes is not a chore any more I use non-toxic cleaning products easy as one two three. all for now.
