my great grandfather started smoking in the 2nd world war.... smoked for 50 years and one day just stopped. No after affects at all.

He had very strong will power and he lived until he was 97.

I personally  think it's all mental

Yes, I stopped cold turkey three times.  :-)   But the third time was the charm.  No smoking of tobacco since the late 1970s.

    I was a three-pack a day addict.

In my case, I took advantage of feeling like crap with the flu to get me over the first few days.

I quit after 20 years... when my father was dying of cancer.
I just quit, then walked into walls for awhile but everything turned out ok.  Best thing I ever did.

Yep.  I did it first time out.  As to why...well, being diagnosed with cancer, having your neck cut open from ear to ear, then having complications from the surgery convinced me that smoking was NOT worth what I went through!

I do admit I miss it terribly.  At times I pass a smoker on the street and breathe in the smoke and it reminds me of the relaxation I always got from a smoke.

Now, later in life, I have chronic lung problems, probably from my years as a smoker.  Again, more reason NOT to smoke.

I quit after several years. It was very difficult as there was no support then and I felt terrible, but I was determined to break the habit. I had one relapse back into the smoking after several months and felt ill and dizzy when I inhaled. That really did it for me and I never trtied it again. Thanks for the question.

I tried but it was too stressful. I quit for a week and even though I was nicotine free I was instead full of rage and hate for everybody and everything haha! Why don't you try electric cigarettes? That's what I did and I definitely don't feel as guilty! www.greensmoke.com/LBP is where I bought mine. Give it a go.

Weak.  Why not try heroin?  Also a great stress reliever....
