   I use vista as my OS and I've been using Microsoft Security Essentials. Very user friendly. And free. I've had no problems....knock on wood! Give it a shot, I have it on all my PC's xp and vista.

   If you ask twelve different consultants this question, you will get twelve different answers.
   
   They are all awful in one way or another.
   
   Actually, one of the better ones is free from Microsoft.  If anyone SHOULD know how to protect Microsoft operating systems, it should be them!
   
   Google for "Microsoft Security Essentials" to find it.
   
   By the way, you seriously should consider moving to Windows 7.  Vista will become an orphaned OS and is not as safe as Win7.
   
   Personally, I use a Mac.  But if you like Windows, Win 7 is your best choice right now,

   I use AVAST Free.  Works awesome.  Used AVG Free for a while, until the last version started misbehaving and blocking sites.  That's when I went with Avast.  Works great, does not slow down my Vista PC at all, catches rogue websites trying to inject malicious code onto my pc.

   Being in a programming job, I've used a LOT of different AV programs. IMHO, Webroot is one of the best. The thing about Microsoft, Norton, and McAfee, is the fact that they are normal programs that COME on computers. Does that mean they're bad? No, but the average PC user still uses IE? Do you know how slow and glitchy it is? It has trouble rendering even the most simple css features. http://neography.com/experiment/circles/solarsystem/
   Look at that in IE, and then in Google Chrome or Safari. Firefox doesn't allow for it to be an animation, it doesn't support those features. But for IE, really? A square solar system? Hackers, Phishers, and other people developing malicious software, develop it to where it will affect the most people. They target these "default" programs. People use what come on the computer, such as Norton, so hackers target it, just like IE. Webroot is actually what Geek Squad uses, when they diagnose your computer. If you are tech savvy, I would suggest Zone Alarm Pro. Fork up the $50 and get guaranteed protection.

    I use AVAST (the free version). After having been using paid antivirus for years, I tried it two years ago and since then I havent spend a dollar in antivirus software.

    I use AVG free, Spybot free and Ad aware free. They are free (!), very user frendly and compatible.

    I pay for and use Trend Micro PC Cillin.. I love it and have never had it fail me for virus and spyware detection.
