Have you ever been "paddled" in school?  By paddled, I mean spanked by a teacher?

I was paddled by the Dean Of Boys when I was in the 7th grade.  He hit me twice with his board and I walked the straight and narrow afterwards. I knew for a fact I didn't want anymore of that. So, that being said...Have you ever been spanked by a teacher?

No but I did get paddled by the principal like 40 years ago. And in spite of what the modern day pop psychologist would have you believe there were no residual affects. I deserved it and believe me I straightened up after that ! The anti spanking crowd is the ones that have their kids in their birthday suits on the net !

I grew up in Trinidad... totally different view on spanking.
I was hit on the knuckles with a ruler. I was never that bad to receive a worse punishment, however I did witness the paddling on the behind of another student.

When my father was transferred to Australia in 1978 he was the only one in the family that spoke english, by the third week we were sent to school, I only knew 2 words in english, apple and chair; after our lunch break one of the other kids gave me chewing gum as we were walking (marching) back to class; the principal walked in to speak to my teacher and on his way out he saw that I was chewing gum, he said something that I obviously didn't understand.  He grabbed me and took me to his office and hit me with a wooden ruler; I was in shock, I had no idea why I was being punished, he made me sit down for a while, by this time I was REALLY chewing my gum, he came out and saw that I was still chewing so he decided to hit me again, the sound of that ruler cracking my palm must been so loud that a couple of teachers came out and explained to him that I was one of the new foreing student and did not speak nor understand english.  That night my sister told my parents what had transpired at school, the next day my father was facing a very embarresed and apologetic school and board.
I beleive that some sort of punishment can help create character but, not on my case, I was a 10 year old boy who was overwhelmed to be in Australia.

Tony0724:  Thanks for your answer. I pretty much had the same outcome as you.

Patriot Blogger:  Not sure you totally understood my question.

    Kaltopsyd:  Thanks for your response.

Yvens:  Sorry to hear about your experience.  In your situation, it was definitely not justifiable. I can imagine the principal felt like a real heel. I would expect the memory would still bring out raw feelings.

Thanks to all for the answers sent.

Yes apparantly I was a bad kid, kinergarten got paddled for crying, 1st grade, paddled for asking to go to the bathroom by the principal he had me lean over his lap and he paddled me, I peed on him, 2nd grade paddled for talking, 3rd grade paddled for talking, a 5th grade paddled for not handing in homework, 6th grade paddled for going outside after lunch, when the teacher said to stay inside, just one note here, I am deaf in one ear and I don't think I quit understood some of what was expected of me, but anyway, there you go. I still believe they shouldn't have taken paddling out of school though, I just think they should be a little more selective on when to use it.

Poor dear, how cruel indeed.  You weren't a bad child, it was those "educators" w/the problems.  You shouldn't have been spanked at all.  These teachers were crazy!

Yes i was spanked by the teacher, back in my days
now it's the other way around the chidren is out of control and most of the time the children takes over the classroom misbehaving, they should bring back the spanking in school. I approved it:(trust me)

Sure and I can't pretend this to be an isolated incident. I was an able student who had way too much energy and not enough challenge with the studies. Able to easily complete my assignments this left me with extra time and I was disruptive. I deserved the discipline.
The effects were never something near abuse nor should they be seen as such. Paying the known penalty taught me that as an adult there would be similar consequences for misbehaving. Too sad parents these days allow children to misbehave and do nothing. We send our children to school to learn and if they are the cause of another to be disrupted they need to be reprimanded. This may not mean a spanking is required but something should be done...

You're right. I almost think a few more paddlings would have made life easier for me in the future.

No, I was never paddled or spanked by a teacher or a parent, and I wouldn't do that to my children or want it done to them by a teacher.  I am not saying that I let my kids misbehave, there are definite (hopefully logical)  consequences for inappropriate behavior. I don't think fighting and hitting is right, so how could I approve of that as a training method?

Yes and it hurt, was embarassing and the worse punishment you could get. Not sure i agree with it now but it sure worked on me. I  only got 3. Two in 7th and one in 9th. The one in ninth was unexpected, i thought they didn't paddle in highschool. This female teacher showed me otherwise and it hurt much worse than those in 7th grade done by the male principal. The embarassment was indescribable at age 14. But it was the only punishment of many she used on me that worked.

Yes, many years ago. I am from the southern region of the U.S. and they called it punishment and not discipline. I chose to discipline my children because discipline is done with love, no malice, just speak to them for they often listen and learn.

I got spanked by the vice principal.
She called my mom to see if it was okay with her and she said yes.
She said to turn around and bend over so I did.
I was spanked for 10 seconds.
She spanked me with the paddle three times.
Once my 9th grade year once my 10th grade year and my senior year.
I hit another classmate and screamed at the teacher 9th grade
I cussed my 10th grade year
I cussed again my senior year
    It hurt
I never did it again ever.
